STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective.
OBJECTIVE: To assess radiation exposure time during robot-guided vertebral body augmentation compared with other published findings.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Rising incidence of vertebral compression fractures in the aging population result in widespread use of vertebral body cement augmentation with significant radiation exposure to the surgeon, operating room staff, and patient. Radiation exposure leads to higher cancer rates among orthopedic and spine surgeons and patients.
METHODS: Thirty-three patients with 60 vertebral compression fractures underwent ro

Minimally invasive surgery for removal of a failed renal allograft has not previously been reported. Herein, we report the first robotic trans-abdominal transplant nephrectomy (TN). A 34-year-old male with Alport's syndrome lost function of his deceased donor allograft after 12 years and presented with fever, pain over his allograft and hematuria. The operation was performed intra-abdominally using the Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System with four trocars. The total operative time was 235 min and the estimated blood loss was less than 25 cm(3). There were no peri-operative complications observed

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS) has revolutionized the surgical treatment of malignant lesions of the oropharyngeal region. Recent studies have shown that this approach is a very safe procedure and can provide favorable clinical and functional outcomes with respect to traditional approaches. However, a small minority of patients who present with lesions amenable to TORS resection may not be candidates due to anatomical access issues. Anatomic features such as a retrognathic mandible, macroglossia, trismus, dentition, and small oral aperture limit the ability to perform

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: During the last decade, the annual volume of robot-assisted prostatectomies performed in the United States has risen steadily. Refinements in surgical technique, understanding of anatomy, and experience have led to more complex patients being offered surgery for management of organ-confined prostate cancer. Complication rates of robot-assisted prostatectomy have been reported in several articles; however, a paucity of data exists when evaluating ureteral injuries sustained during robot-assisted prostatectomy. No standardized universal criteria for reporting and grading

The azygos lobe is a well-known and well-described anatomical variation of the right lung. Primary lung cancer arising from an azygos lobe, however, is exceedingly rare. Only a handful of cases have been previously reported in the literature. We report the first case with operative demonstration of a primary adenocarcinoma arising from an azygos lobe, which was treated with robot-assisted azygos lobectomy.

Laparoscopic management of major vessel lesion is a challenging task during pelvic lymphadenectomy, and conversion is frequently necessary. Robotic surgery overcomes the limits of laparoscopy in vascular suturing. We describe a case of a 79-year-old woman with stage IB G3 endometrial adenocarcinoma, where an external iliac vein injury occurred during pelvic lymphadenectomy. This is the first case report that describes robotic management of a major vascular injury during pelvic lymphadenectomy by use of endoscopic bulldog clamps and robotic intracorporeal vascular sutures.

Spindle cell lipoma is an uncommon histologic variant of lipoma, and reports at the larynx or hypopharynx are extremely rare. We present our experience with a 53-year-old man with a huge spindle cell lipoma of the pyriform sinus and tried to remove the tumor using a transoral robotic approach. The tumor was successfully removed with 3-dimensional visualization providing an excellent view of the resection margin and the dissection plane. Furthermore, geometric resection could be conducted in the narrow pharyngeal lumen and working space using the articulated robotic arms. We suggest that spindl

PURPOSE: Acute urinary retention after catheter removal is a recognized complication following open or robot-assisted radical prostatectomy. We evaluated patient and surgery related risk factors to determine whether acute urinary retention could be prevented. To our knowledge this has not previously been investigated for prostatectomy done by any technique.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed a single surgeon, robot-assisted radical prostatectomy database of patients treated between February 2008 and June 2011 for acute urinary retention after catheter removal, which was routinely performed 3
