Imaging of posterior element axial pain generators: facet joints, pedicles, spinous processes, sacroiliac joints, and transitional segments.

The role of the posterior elements in generating axial back and neck pain is well established; the imaging detection of posterior element pain generators remains problematic. Morphologic imaging findings have proved to be nonspecific and are frequently present in asymptomatic patients. Edema, inflammation, and hypervascularity are more specific for sites of pain generation, but are often overlooked by imagers if physiologic imaging techniques such as fat-suppressed T2 or contrast-enhanced T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging, radionuclide bone scanning with single-photon emission computed to

Upper extremity Mycobacterium marinum infection.

Mycobacterium marinum is the cause of opportunistic infections in man. Although its clinical presentation is usually cutaneous, osteoarticular infections are not rare and should be rapidly diagnosed. Orthopaedic surgeons may have to manage a patient with this mycobacterial infection and should be able to make this diagnosis based on information about the patient's history and clinical criteria. Lesions develop from a skin wound, with a single nodule or a bright purplish-red patch with papules; they also may be inflamed or may abscess. Secondary lesions may develop as the disease progresses. Achilles tendon injuries in athletes.

Two-thirds of Achilles tendon injuries in competitive athletes are paratenonitis and one-fifth are insertional complaints (bursitis and insertion tendinitis). The remaining afflictions consist of pain syndromes of the myotendineal junction and tendinopathies. The majority of Achilles tendon injuries from sport occur in males, mainly because of their higher rates of participation in sport, but also with tendinopathies a gender difference is probably indicated. Athletes in running sports have a high incidence of Achilles tendon overuse injuries. About 75% of total and the majority of partial ten…

Ultrasound-guided Shoulder Intraarticular Ozone Injection Versus Pulsed Radiofrequency Application for Shoulder Adhesive Capsulitis: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: A diseased shoulder due to pain, stiffness, or weakness negatively affects patients' quality of life and their ability to carry out activities of daily living. Adhesive capsulitis is a disease characterized by shoulder pain and global limitation of movement in the shoulder joint. Many interventions have been proposed for the treatment of primary adhesive capsulitis. The current study compares the effect of ultrasound-guided intraarticular injection of ozone versus steroid versus intraarticular application of pulsed radiofrequency. OBJECTIVES: The primary outcome of the current stu
