Most of the rare bilateral acute angle closure (AAC) cases are precipitated by systemic factors, such as drug intake, snake bite or general anaesthesia. We present a case of simultaneous bilateral AAC in a middle-aged male, precipitated by the use of medication for flu, containing an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist and an anticholinergic agent. In our case, axial length was shorter, anterior chamber depth was narrower, and the lens was thicker than normal, including the patient within the risk group for AAC. A 73-year-old-woman presented following neodymium:YAG capsulotomy for posterior capsular opacification with acute glaucoma. Previous cataract surgery had left her with a subluxated lens. Cornea edema obscured detail of the anterior chamber, but the edge of the lens could be seen clearly within the pupillary space. Thorough ocular history taking and physical examination are essential to establish a diagnosis in patients presenting with eye conditions. Some conditions require ophthalmologic referral to avoid serious complications and even vision loss. These include corneal ulcers, retinal detachment, iritis, glaucoma, retinal artery occlusion, and endophthalmitis. Because primary open-angle glaucoma can have an insidious onset and cause irreversible damage, funduscopic examination should be a part of every complete physical examination.

PURPOSE: To investigate the types, frequency and clinical profiles of uveitic glaucoma seen at a tertiary care center and also to have an idea about the distribution of uveitic glaucoma types in Turkish population.
METHODS: Consecutive case notes of all patients attending a specialized uveitis clinic over a 3-month period were reviewed retrospectively.
RESULTS: One hundred and seven eyes of 96 patients were included. Sixty-five of the eyes had anterior, one intermediate, nine posterior uveitis while 32 of them had panuveitis. Twenty-three eyes had acute, 52 chronic and 32 recurrent uveitis.

A small series of patients who underwent iridocycloretraction between 1969 and 1976 is analysed. All patients had previously undergone peripheral iridectomy for primary angle-closure glaucoma, and all had 360 degrees of peripheral anterior synechiae, as seen with the gonioscope. It was found that iridocycloretraction was successful in an unacceptably low percentage of cases, and its success was related to whether subconjunctival drainage was established. There was no clinical evidence to support the theory that its main mode of action was to permit access of aqueous to the trabecular meshwork.
