A novel technique of urinary diversion was designed by interposition of an intussuscepted ileal segment between the ureters and the rectosigmoidal pouch, thus preventing ureteral reflux as well as stenosis at the uretero-enteric anastomosis, possible occurrence of urocolonic carcinoma, and frequent evacuation or incontinence. Since all the procedures were limited to the lower abdominal cavity, the surgical invasiveness was compatible with that of an ileal conduit. Our early experience in 15 patients showed that this technique can be considered for those in whom the urethra is not available.

Transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM) is the method used in cases of benign tumors at the early stages of rectal cancer. The tumor localization in peritonized part of the rectum indicates a limiting level for removal of the neoplasm. TEM was performed on 137 patients. After extensive literature review utilizing PubMed and Medline searches, we present a rare case of oxaliplatin-induced grade 3/4 hepatocellular injury and ototoxicity. The patient is a 46-year-old female diagnosed with stage IIIC (pT3N2bM0) adenocarcinoma of the sigmoid colon. PET/CT prior to surgery and chemotherapy was negative for distant metastatic disease and baseline liver-associated enzymes were within normal limits. Following sigmoidectomy, patient began adjuvant chemotherapy with 5-florouracil, leucovorin, and oxaliplatin (mFOLFOX-6). Cycle 1 was complicated only by refractory nausea.

PURPOSE: 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is a mainstay for treating various solid tumours in adults, including digestive and head and neck cancers. 5-FU-related toxicities usually include haematological, digestive and cutaneous features. Additionally, 5-FU has been described as being potentially neurotoxic in patients, but these side effects are quite rare in clinical practice. Here, we report two cases of sudden and unpredictable drug-induced neurotoxicities that occurred in patients undergoing their first course of 5-FU-based chemotherapy.
