The vestibular function was extensively investigated in 75 patients suffering from migraine. Pathological findings were present in 62 patients (82.6%). With the exception of position nystagmus, vestibular abnormalities were not related to migraine characteristics. Fifty-six patients were treated with flunarizine 10 mg daily for three months. A favourable effect on headache was obtained in 44 patients (78.5%). Flunarizine therapy influenced significantly gaze nystagmus and position nystagmus. BACKGROUND: Both the dynamic visual acuity (DVA) test and the video head-impulse test (vHIT) are fast and simple ways to assess peripheral vestibulopathy. After losing peripheral vestibular function, some patients show better DVA performance than others, suggesting good compensatory mechanisms. INTRODUCTION: Aminoglycoside antibiotics such as gentamicin are bactericidal and effective against gram negative organisms and act synergistically against gram positive organisms, including Staphylococcus aureus. However, they have serious adverse effects such as nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity. Gentamicin ototoxicity may occur after a single dose and results in decreased vestibular function, which is frequently debilitating and often permanent.
OBJECTIVE: To emphasize the risk of gentamicin ototoxicity and suggest alternative antibiotics in penicillin-allergic patients undergoing surgery.

PURPOSE: Whiplash is a type of trauma typically caused by a rear end collision in a road accident. About one in two patients who experience whiplash report dizziness and balance problems, which can severely affect their activities in daily life. In industrialized countries, the number of elderly people with a driving license has increased in recent years. The aims of the present study were to describe the video-nystagmographic features in a consecutive series of elderly patients experiencing whiplash injury in a road accident, comparing them with similar injuries in a group of young adults.
