Delayed endodontic and prosthetic treatment of two traumatized incisors.

This case report describes the delayed endodontic and prosthetic treatment of two maxillary central incisors in a 16-year-old patient. Both teeth had been traumatized eight years previously. The examination revealed arrested root formation with wide open apices, periapical inflammation and inflammatory resorption. Endodontic treatment with calcium hydroxide led to formation of hard tissue barriers in both teeth so that definite obturation could be performed. One tooth was lost due to a deep crown-root-fracture and replaced by an intraosseous implant, whereas the other incisor was retained for

Diagnostic accuracy of artificial intelligence-based deep learning models in detecting furcation involvement: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Furcation involvement complicates the management of periodontitis and increases the risk of tooth loss. Conventional methods of detection, such as probing and two-dimensional radiographs, are limited by operator variability and anatomical complexity. Deep learning has shown a potential to detect furcation involvement on radiographic images. The aim of this review was to systematically evaluate the diagnostic potentials of deep learning models in detecting furcation involvement on radiographic images. METHODS: Systematic search was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, CENTRAL, ClinicalTria

Reparative Dentin Formation Following Dental Pulp Capping is Mediated by TNFR1 In Vivo.

INTRODUCTION: Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that promotes biomineralization in vitro in dental pulp cells. However, the role of TNF-α-TNF receptor 1 (TNFR1) signaling in reparative dentin formation and related inflammatory pathways is not known. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the role of the TNF-α-TNFR1 axis in dental pulp repair following pulp capping in vivo. METHODS: Dental pulp repair response of genetically deficient TNF-α receptor-1 mice (TNFR1-/-; n = 20) was compared with that of C57Bl6 mice (wild type [WT]; n = 20). Pulp capping was pe

Delivery of Apical Mesenchymal Stem Cells into Root Canals of Mature Teeth.

Regenerative endodontic procedures are stem cell-based treatments for immature teeth with pulp necrosis. The translation of regenerative endodontic procedures into treating mature teeth depends, among other factors, on the availability and delivery of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into the root canal system. The aim of this clinical study was to evaluate whether evoked bleeding from the periapical tissues elicits the influx of MSCs into the root canal system in mature teeth with apical lesions. Participants included in this study (N = 20) were referred for endodontic treatment of mature teeth

The use of SPECT bone scans to evaluate patients with idiopathic jaw pain.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential usefulness of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) bone scanning with technetium-99m methylene diphosphonate (Tc-99m MDP) in the diagnosis of idiopathic jaw pain. Unlike planar bone scanning, SPECT uses tomographic technology to provide 3-dimensional images, which are more useful in localizing small lesions. STUDY DESIGN: Twenty patients, each with a diagnosis of chronic idiopathic jaw pain, were compared after SPECT bone scanning with 20 age-matched and gender-matched normal controls. Uptake was identified an
