BACKGROUND: Nonoperative management (NOM) has become the standard treatment of blunt hepatic injury (BHI) for stable patients. Contrast extravasation (CE) on computed tomography (CT) scan had been reported as a sign that is associated with NOM failure. BACKGROUND: Splenic embolization can increase nonoperative salvage. However, complications are not clearly defined. A retrospective multicenter review was performed to delineate the risks and benefits of splenic embolization.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review of all patients undergoing splenic embolization from 1997 to 2002 at four separate Level I trauma centers was performed. Reviewed results included patient demographics, admission and follow-up computed tomographic scan results, angiographic technique, and patient outcomes including splenic salvage rate and procedural complications.

Persistent polyclonal B-cell lymphocytosis (PPBL) is a rare and recently described entity. The review of the literature show PPBL is diagnosed predominantly but not exclusively in women, usually smokers. PPBL is recognized by a moderate, chronic and absolute lymphocytosis (>4 × 10(9)/l) in the peripheral blood. Pancreatic fluid collections (PFC), including pancreatic pseudocysts and walled-off pancreatic necrosis, are a known complication of severe acute pancreatitis. A majority of the PFCs remain asymptomatic and resolve spontaneously. However, some PFCs persist and can become symptomatic.
