Biochemical Saliva Analysis and Caries Experience In Children With Black Tooth Stain.

PURPOSE: Black tooth stain (BTS) is an extrinsic discolouration that typically appears along the cervical third of the buccal and/or lingual surfaces of both primary and permanent teeth, predominantly in prepubertal individuals. This study aimed to investigate the biochemical properties of saliva and assess caries experience in children with and without BTS during the mixed-dentition period. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 120 children aged 7-12 years were enrolled and divided equally into BTS(+) and BTS(-) groups. Comprehensive dental examinations were conducted using dft/DMFT indices and

Assessment of using transfer learning with different classifiers in hypodontia diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Hypodontia is the absence of one or more teeth in the primary or permanent dentition during development, and radiographic imaging is the most common method of diagnosis. However, in recent years, artificial intelligence-based decision support systems have been employed to make highly accurate diagnoses. The aim of this study was to classify single premolar agenesis, multiple premolar agenesis, and without tooth agenesis using various artificial intelligence approaches. METHODS: One thousand sixty-eight panoramic radiographs from pediatric patients aged between 6 and 12 years witho

Assessment of Knowledge and Utilization of Prefabricated Band and Loop Space Maintainers in Primary Dentition Among Dentists: A Cross-Sectional Questionnaire Study.

INTRODUCTION: Preserving primary dentition is essential for maintaining optimal oral health and development in children. Premature loss of primary teeth due to caries, infection, crowding, or trauma can necessitate orthodontic intervention and lead to various complications. Space maintainers are critical for preserving arch space until the eruption of permanent teeth, thereby preventing issues such as ectopic eruption, crowding, and malocclusion. Despite their advantages, prefabricated space maintainers (PSMs) are underutilized. This study aims to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practic

Successful completion of orthodontic therapy in a patient with osteopetrosis: Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Orthodontic therapy in patients with osteopetrosis (OP) of the jaws has typically been contraindicated owing to the presence of poorly perfused and extremely compact bone, and the potential risk for infection and osteomyelitis. As such, completed orthodontic cases in association with OP, have rarely been published. PATIENT CONCERNS: A patient aged 14 years 6 months, with no known diagnosis of OP, sought orthodontic assessment for anterior crowding. CLINICAL FINDINGS: The patient exhibited a straight facial profile and increased mandibular facial height, competent lips, shallow

Transforming Growth Factor Beta Receptor 2 (TGFBR2) Promoter Region Polymorphisms May Be Involved in Mandibular Retrognathism.

Skeletal malocclusions are common phenotypes in humans and have a strong influence on genetic factors. Transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) controls numerous functions of the human body, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration. Thus, this study is aimed at evaluating whether genetic polymorphisms in TGFB1 and its receptor TGFBR2 are associated with mandibular retrognathism in German children and adolescents. Children and teenagers older than 8 years in the mixed or permanent dentition were included in this study. Patients with syndromes and facial trauma and patients wit

China experts' consensus on preventive and interceptive orthodontic treatments of malocclusions of children.

Malocclusion is one of the three most common oral diseases reported by World Health Organization(WHO). In China, its incidence rate is rising. Malocclusion seriously affects the dental and maxillofacial function, facial appearance and growth development of nearly 260 million children in China, and what is more, it affects their physical and mental health development. Malocclusion occurrence is related to genetic and environmental factors. Early treatment of malocclusion can create a good dental and maxillofacial development environment, correct abnormal growth and control the adverse effects o
