Articular surface conformity is a critical factor influencing the biomechanics of knee prostheses, yet its impact on the biomechanics of rotation-hinged knee (RHK) prostheses and their tibial fixation remains unclear. In this study, a rotational platform tibial insert model of RHK prostheses with varying coronal and sagittal conformities is established. Finite element analysis was performed under ISO boundary conditions to investigate the effects of articular surface conformity on the biomechanics of the RHK prosthesis and tibial fixation. The study revealed that when the coronal conformity de

Transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 channel ( TRPV4 ) gene mutations have been described in skeletal system and peripheral nervous system pathology. The case described here is a 9-year-old male child patient, born to a nonconsanguineous marriage with normal birth history who had difficulty in walking and stiffness of joints for the last 7 years, and progressive weakness of all four limbs and urine incontinence for 1 year following falls. Physical examination showed below-average weight and height and short trunk. Musculoskeletal examination revealed bony prominence bilaterally in the knee

BACKGROUND: A well-established reference is lacking for diagnosing lateral patellar compression syndrome (LPCS), and this diagnosis currently depends on clinicians' subjective judgment and several examination results. X-rays are primarily used to diagnose LPCS, but they have low detection rates of patellar tilt using the congruence angle (CA) and patellar tilting angle (PTA).
METHODS: We enrolled 87 patients (31 men and 56 women; mean age: 42.11±15.33 years) between 2016 and 2019 and divided them as per diagnosis into three groups of 29 each: LPCS, patellar dislocation (PD, control), and meni

Introduction: Poor patellar tracking can result in painful contact pressures, patella subluxation, or dislocation. The use of musculoskeletal models and simulations in orthopedic surgeries allows for objective predictions of post-treatment function, empowering clinicians to explore diverse treatment options for patients. Although a promising approach for managing knee surgeries, the high computational cost of the Finite Element Method hampers its clinical usability. In anticipation of minimal elastic deformations in the involved bodies, the exploration of the Multibody Dynamics approach emerge

BACKGROUND: Sports injuries are common in pediatric and adolescent patients and the evaluation and treatment of these injuries continues to evolve. The purpose of this review is to provide a comprehensive appraisal of the literature, highlighting recent updates on sports-related knee injuries in the pediatric athlete. We specifically examined literature on tibial spine fractures, osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) of the knee, and patellar instability. Because of the volume of literature on the subject, pediatric, and adolescent anterior cruciate ligament injuries were not included in this review

BACKGROUND: Torsional malalignment syndrome (TMS) is a well defined condition consisting of a combination of femoral antetorsion and tibial lateral torsion. The axis of knee motion is medially rotated. This may lead to patellofemoral malalignment with an increased Q angle and chondromalacia, patellar subluxation and dislocation. Conservative management is recommended in all but the most rare and severest cases. In these cases deformity correction requires osteotomies at two levels per limb.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From 1987 to 2002 in our institution three patients underwent double femoral and

Soft tissue aspects of skeletal trauma are discussed according to two categories: (1) those injuries in which the significance of the soft tissue in the pathophysiology of the skeletal lesion is indicated by the characteristics of the skeletal injury (such as extension teardrop fracture, little leaguer's elbow, "baseball fracture," and Bennett's fracture); and (2) those injuries in which the associated soft tissue injury, or complication, may be reasonably inferred by the location and nature of the skeletal injury (such as major facial fractures, posterior sternoclavicular dislocations, fractu

The peroneus muscles, consisting of the peroneus longus (PL) and peroneus brevis (PB) tendons, are vulnerable to injury at anatomically specific sites or within tendon sheaths. Peroneal tendon dislocation (PTD) is often misdiagnosed as a lateral ankle sprain as it occurs at a lower frequency than a lateral ankle sprain. Anatomical variations in the retromalleolar groove, soft tissue overstuffing, and presence of accessory peroneal muscles contribute to the etiology of PTD. PTD has been classified into four types based on injury patterns involving the superior peroneal retinaculum (SPR) and fib

Skeletal trauma accounts for 10% to 15% of all childhood injuries, with approximately 15% to 30% of these representing physeal injuries. Talus fractures are rare injuries in children with an estimated prevalence of 0.008% of all childhood fractures. Cast immobilization is sufficient treatment for non-displaced fractures, however displaced fractures of the talus require surgical intervention to minimize the risk of trauma-related avascular necrosis (AVN) due to disruption of the vascular supply originating from the talar neck. A 13-year-old boy was brought to the accident and emergency (A/E) de

BACKGROUND: Patellar instability remains a challenging problem for orthopaedic surgeons. Recurrent patellar instability is traditionally treated with medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction using a suture anchor or bone tunnel technique. Although the use of transosseous sutures was recently described for MPFL reconstruction, relevant clinical data have not been reported.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to compare a new transosseous suture fixation technique with the suture anchor technique for MPFL reconstruction. The hypothesis was that reconstruction with tran
