Exploring the physical properties of the new MoX6 (X = Cl or Br) materials.

In this study, we present a comprehensive investigation of the mechanical, electronic, optical, and thermodynamic properties of MoX6 (X = Cl or Br) using first-principles calculations within the Wien2k framework, which is based on the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FPLAPW) method. Our approach incorporates the GGA+SOC+U formalism, crucial for accurately capturing intricate electronic interactions and spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effects, alongside Hubbard U corrections. This rigorous methodology allowed us to thoroughly explore the mechanical robustness, electronic structure, and

Improving single-subject change assessment: deriving the minimal detectable change of questionnaires' ordinal scores from Rasch analysis measures.

PURPOSE: The minimal detectable change (MDC) of questionnaire ordinal scores (MDCord) is the smallest score difference exceeding the measurement error. Being ordinal, it suffers from flaws, successfully addressed by the Rasch analysis (RA) and its robust interval measures. However, RA measures struggle to become established, likely because scores are more straightforward. This study aims to derive the MDCord of two upper limb measures, the Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Upper Limb (FMA-UL) and the Functional Assessment Test for Upper Limb (FAST-UL), from the MDC of their RA interval measures (MDCint).

Analysis of the Direct Medical Costs of Colorectal Cancer in Antigua and Barbuda: A Prevalence-Based Cost-of-Illness Study.

Colorectal cancer burden is a threat to health systems in several countries. As the cost of diagnosing, treating, and managing this cancer is unknown in Antigua and Barbuda, this study aimed to estimate its direct medical cost in this country. We used the prevalence-based cost-of-illness methodology to study data on patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer between 2017 and 2021. Data record abstraction was carried out to determine the five-year prevalence, and a top-down and bottom-up approach was employed to estimate the direct medical costs for colorectal cancer care components. All costs w

Joint modeling with generalized item response theory model family and response time model: Enhancing model structural flexibility and data-fitting adequacy.

In this study, we propose a joint hierarchical model that combines a family of item response theory (IRT) models with a log-normal response time (RT) model to analyze item responses and response times. By incorporating RTs as auxiliary information, we improve the accuracy of latent trait estimation, thereby facilitating a deeper understanding of examinee performance. Additionally, we explore the use of either identical or distinct link functions across different items, allowing us to optimize IRT models for each item and improve overall model fit. We further investigate scenarios in which the

Implementation of the Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium On the Kinetic Model for the Oligomerization of Olefins.

The oligomerization of light C2-C4 olefins has emerged as one of the most studied processes for the sustainable production of different refinery cuts of interest as green fuels, such as gasoline, diesel, or aviation fuels. However, oligomerization is a complex process in which the presence of a gas and liquid phase (heavy oligomers) leads to unique phenomena in this reaction: an apparent initial deactivation of the catalyst due to the pore filling with retained oligomers and a steady state of catalyst constant activity. These features make it difficult to develop robust kinetic models to simul

Novel Assembling of Furano-Fused Azepinone Derivatives for Inhibition of Acetylcholinesterase Responsible for Alzheimer's Disease: Synthesis, Molecular Docking, DFT, In Vitro, and In Silico Studies.

A new assembly of furano-fused azepinone derivatives was carried out in two steps, i.e., 3 + 2 cycloaddition followed by hydroxylammonium-O-sulfonic acid (HOSA)-assisted Beckmann rearrangement in aqueous conditions. This methodology uses a readily available starting synthon, dimedone, to synthesize five- and six-membered condensed furano-azepinone derivatives 5(a-n), and their structures were validated by spectral techniques. In vitro antiacetylcholinesterase (AchE) activity revealed that compound 5n (IC50= 2.38 ± 0.02 nM) showed higher inhibitory activity than reference drugs galantamine (IC5

An integrated approach to tracking mandibular position relative to incisal and condylar envelopes of motion during intraoral clinical procedures: a new look at TMJ movements.

Current methods for tracking temporomandibular joint (TMJ) movements are difficult to perform during dental procedures. Yet precise and accurate quantification of mandibular movements is critical for understanding temporomandibular biomechanics and how certain movements may contribute to temporomandibular dysfunction. This is particularly relevant to clinical procedures that might move the mandible near or beyond its functional range of motion. We present a novel approach that integrates cone-beam computed tomography, optical intra-oral scans, and six degree-of-freedom electromagnetic sensor d

From pixels to patterns: Coupling Optical Coherence Tomography and machine learning for monitoring coastal wetland root systems.

Coastal wetlands are crucial in shoreline stabilization, carbon sequestration, and storm protection. Yet, due to limitations in traditional destructive sampling techniques, the belowground biomass (live root mass) and necromass (dead and decaying roots) remain difficult to assess in coastal wetlands, limiting our understanding on coastal resilience, nutrient cycling, and soil structure. This study employs Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) as a high-resolution imaging technique to analyze root biomass and necromass in the Terrebonne Basin, Louisiana. A Random Forest (RF) model was developed to

VR HMD color calibration and accurate control of emitted light using Three.js.

Virtual reality (VR) can be used to design and create new types of psychophysical experiments. Its main advantage is that it frees us from the physical limitations of real-life experiments and the hardware and software limitations of experiments running on two-dimensional (2D) displays and computer graphics. However, color calibration of the displays is often required in vision science studies. Recent studies have shown that a standard color calibration of a head-mounted display (HMD) can be very challenging and comes with significant drawbacks. These drawbacks include the need to completely d

Concurrent assessment of sprint running lower-limb and trunk kinematics using marker-based and markerless motion capture.

Reliable and accurate sprint kinematics assessment is of utmost interest for both performance and prevention purposes. To guide field practice, new technologies must be tested against optical motion capture references. We compared markerless motion capture (ML)(Theia Markerless) to the reference method, marker-based motion capture (MB)(CORTEX). Three-dimension kinematic data from MB and ML systems and ground reaction force were collected simultaneously for 14 participants, at three stages of the sprint acceleration spectrum (early, middle acceleration and top speed). Efficient curve fitting with penalized B-splines for oceanographic and ecological applications.

This study introduces a penalized B-spline approach for estimating smooth curves, incorporating a total variation penalty to balance flexibility and interpretability. By leveraging group penalties and the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) algorithm, the method ensures consistency across response variables and computational efficiency. We applied this approach to two real-world datasets: oceanographic drifter data in the Niño 4 region and Demoiselle Crane migration data. The fitted trajectories closely captured both large-scale trends and localized variations, demonstrating rob
