Bronchiolar clearance was studied in 7 boys in the age range of 8 to 17 years, 6 with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and 1 with spinal muscular atrophy type II (SMA-II). These boys had healthy lungs but a severely reduced muscular strength (wheelchair dependent). In 6 of the boys, clearance was studied twice, at one occasion as a control and at the other occasion following treatment with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). A control group of healthy adults was used. In the clearance examinations, 6-microm Teflon particles, labeled with III In was inhaled extremely slowly, 0.05 L/s.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate gastric emptying and intestinal transit of pelleted pancreatin in relation to food boluses.
METHODS: Dual isotope scintigraphy combined with breath hydrogen sampling was used to track the concurrent gastric emptying and intestinal transit of 111indium labelled microspheres and a 99mtechnetium labelled tin colloid test meal. Twelve pancreatic insufficient cystic fibrosis patients aged 5 to 38 years performed the study.

The evolving clinical role for tumour immunoscintigraphy appears to be in monitoring patients for metastatic spread and tumour recurrence. Such diagnostic strategies inevitably involve repeat imaging investigations, and therefore the probability of patient immunization against the administered radiopharmaceutical is increased. Patient antibody responses would appear to affect the quality and sensitivity of repeat imaging studies, and this also has implications for the therapeutic efficacy of subsequent therapy doses. A simple test for determining patient sensitization to antibody is required.

In these two patients, as in 13 others described in the literature, a typical meningitic syndrome with excitement, confusion and a fever of 104degrees F (40degrees C) appeared 4-6 hours following the intra-thecal injection. Previously published biologic distribution and clearance data for 169Yb-DTPA in cisternography were utilized to obtain effective spinal segment clearance data for six other easily dhelated radionuclides: 99mTc, 113mIn, 111In, 67Ga, 51Cr, and 203Pb.
