A systematic review and meta-analysis of early and late outcomes after endovascular angioplasty among patients with thromboangiitis obliterans and chronic limb ischemia.

BACKGROUND: No consensus has yet been reached regarding the optimal treatment of patients with thromboangiitis obliterans (TO) and chronic limb ischemia. In the present study, we aimed to summarize the results on endovascular treatment of such patients. METHODS: We performed a meta-analysis using the following databases: PubMed, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library. The eligible studies had been reported up to December 2021 and had evaluated endovascular angioplasty to treat patients with TO and chronic limb ischemia. The early (mortality and technical success) and late (primary/secondary patency

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the radiographical and clinical outcomes between anterior spinal fusion (ASF) and posterior spinal fusion (PSF) in Lenke type 5 adolescence idiopathic scoliosis. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: PSF has been the standard operation for adolescence idiopathic scoliosis. ASF can also achieve a good curve correction effect with fewer fusion segments and minor invasion of paraspinal structures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic literature research was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of S

Enteral feeding and the microbiome in critically ill children: a narrative review.

OBJECTIVE: This narrative review summarizes our current knowledge on the interplay between enteral nutrition (EN) and gut microbiota in critically ill children, using examples from two commonly encountered diagnoses in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU): severe sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). This review will also highlight potential areas of therapeutic interventions that should be explored in future studies. BACKGROUND: Critically ill children display extreme dysbiosis in their gut microbiome. Factors within the PICU that are often associated with dysbiosis incl

Effect assessment of evidence-based nursing in combination with clinical nursing pathway on nephrotic syndrome care in children: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Childhood nephrotic syndrome is widespread in pediatric nephrology. In most cases, it needs hospitalization for patient management. An increasing number of studies report that proper nursing care could promote the rate of treatment and improve post-treatment prognosis. Clinical nursing pathways refer to innovative nursing modes with high-quality, excellent efficacy, and low costing treatment. There are reports on how nursing methods that utilize data combine with clinical nursing pathway to enhance nephrotic syndrome care in kids. However, the results remain controversial. Therefor

Cost of septic and aseptic revision total knee arthroplasty: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: The increasing incidence of primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has led to an increase in both the incidence and the cost burden of revision TKA procedures. This study aimed to review the literature on the cost of revision TKA for septic and aseptic causes and to identify the major cost components contributing to the cost burden. METHODS: We searched MEDLINE (OvidSp), Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, EconLit, and Google Scholar to identify relevant studies. Selection, data extraction and assessment of the risk of bias and cost transparency within the studies were conduc

A systematic review and meta-analysis of HIV associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) among people with HIV in Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Ethiopia, being in the Sub Saharan region of Africa, is one of the countries with a substantial burden of HIV infection. Because of the high burden of HIV and poor health care settings, HAND is prevalent as demonstrated in various cross-sectional studies. However, no review has been conducted to report the consolidated magnitude of HAND among people with HIV in Ethiopia. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to estimate the prevalence of HAND in Ethiopia. METHODS: Following the PRISMA guidelines, we systematically reviewed and meta-analyzed studies that investi

Systematic review of BRAF/MEK inhibitors-induced Severe Cutaneous Adverse Reactions (SCARs).

Severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) [Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic syndrome (DRESS), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP), and generalized bullous fixed eruption (GBFE)] are severe drug reactions that often require hospitalization and could be fatal. BRAF and MEK inhibitors (BRAF/MEKi) are a standard of care in patients with BRAF-mutated metastatic melanomas. These agents are administered until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity occurs. This review has focus on BRAF/MEKi-induced SCARs. A

Effects of traditional Chinese exercise on cardiac rehabilitation after percutaneous coronary intervention: study protocol for network meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.

INTRODUCTION: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most common cause of death worldwide. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been shown to reduce mortality in patients with CHD. However, there are still recurrences of cardiovascular events after PCI. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) in patients with established CHD is associated with reductions in cardiovascular mortality and hospital admissions, as well as improved quality of life. More and more clinical trials suggest that traditional Chinese exercise (TCE) plays a positive role in patients post-PCI. The primary purposes of the current st

The effect of nicorandil in patients with acute myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

AIMS: To study the effect of nicorandil on prognosis of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). METHODS: We retrieved literatures from Web of Science, Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane Library. The retrieval time was limited from inception to December 2018. RESULTS: Nineteen randomized controlled trials involving 2176 patients were finally selected for this study. Meta-analysis showed that nicorandil can significantly reduce corrected TIMI frame count (cTFC) (WMD = - 5.27; 95% CI (- 6.61, - 3.93); P < 0.00001) and improve the no-reflow

Improving outcomes for neonates with gastroschisis in low-income and middle-income countries: a systematic review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: There is a significant disparity in outcomes for neonates with gastroschisis in high-income countries (HICs) compared with low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). Many LMICs report mortality rates between 75% and 100% compared with <4% in HICs. AIM: To undertake a systematic review identifying postnatal interventions associated with improved outcomes for gastroschisis in LMICs. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Three search strings will be combined: (1) neonates; (2) gastroschisis and other gastrointestinal congenital anomalies requiring similar surgical care; (3) LMICs. Databases
