Tendon injuries account for 45% of musculoskeletal injuries. However, research on the occurrence and pathogenesis of tendinopathy is insufficient, and there is still much debate regarding treatment methods. It is important to understand the molecular mechanisms of oxidative stress and inflammatory responses because oxidative stress in tendon tissue is induced by various factors, including inflammatory cytokines, drug exposure, and metabolic abnormalities. In this study, 28 rats were divided into four groups (7 rats assigned to each group): control group (CON), collagenase injection group (CL),

BACKGROUND: CrossFit training, which includes functional exercises and improves various physical parameters, has become increasingly popular in recent years. Since CrossFit is a high-intensity training program, injury rate and risk factors must be evaluated. This study aims to determine the relationship between the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) score and balance, core endurance, and musculoskeletal system injuries in CrossFit athletes.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 52 CrossFit athletes. FMS assessed biomechanical abnormalities, fundamental movement patterns, and asymmetries

INTRODUCTION: High-voltage electrical injuries (HVEI) can lead to a wide range of complications, including musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiac, and renal damage. Hematological complications are rare but have been reported, with aplastic anemia being an exceptionally uncommon consequence. To date, only two cases of aplastic anemia following HVEI have been documented.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 21-year-old male who sustained a HVEI and developed progressive pancytopenia during hospitalization. Despite stable vital signs and initially normal lab results, his hemoglobin dropped

Introduction: Marfan syndrome (MFS) is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder, caused by a mutation in the FBN-1 gene, affecting the cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, ocular, and central nervous systems. Cardiovascular abnormalities associated with MFS lead to different pathological conditions, such as cardiac arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, and aortic dilatation. The latter are the primary causes of mortality in MFS patients. To date, the role of altered oral microbiota (OM) in MFS is unknown, and so the aim of our study was to determine whether there are differences in the oral microbio

BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal (MSK) symptoms are a frequent but diagnostically ambiguous presentation in children with malignancies such as leukemia and neuroblastoma. These symptoms may precede hematologic abnormalities, complicating early diagnosis and increasing the risk of misclassification. Inappropriate treatments, such as corticosteroids, may further obscure disease features.
OBJECTIVE: To identify clinical and laboratory indicators of leukemia and neuroblastoma at initial evaluation in children presenting with MSK symptoms and to develop a simple preliminary triage tool (TRIM).

Cases with congenital anomalies of kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) often have other associated anomalies. The purpose of this investigation was to assess the prevalence and the types of associated anomalies in CAKUT in a well-characterized population from northeastern France. The associated anomalies in CAKUT were collected in all live births, stillbirths and terminations of pregnancy during 29 years in 387,067 consecutive births of known outcome in the area covered by our population-based registry of congenital anomalies. Of the 1946 cases with CAKUT born during this period (prevalence at bi

Distortions in homeostasis of the gut microbiota may be correlated with or may even contribute to abnormalities in musculoskeletal system function. This study thus aims to examine the impact of dietary index for gut microbiota (DI-GM) on bone and muscle health. This study utilized data extracted from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database. Dietary data was used to calculate DI-GM. Osteoporosis, bone mineral density (BMD), sarcopenia, muscle quality index (MQI) and fracture were selected as observational indicators in this study. The random forest algorithm filled in the

Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain and tenderness, cognitive dysfunction, fatigue, and insomnia. Electroacupuncture (EA) has documented efficacy against FM-associated pain, while cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) plays a critical role in endogenous analgesia. Herein, we examined whether pain relief initiated by EA was linked with differing cerebellar CB1 levels and signaling in an intermittent cold stress (ICS) mouse model of FM. FM-like hyperalgesia and recovery were assessed by measuring mechanical and thermal nociceptive thresholds. Compared to control mice, IC

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Low back pain (LBP) is the most prevalent musculoskeletal condition, significantly impacting quality of life and incurring high social costs. Although non-specific (without anatomical abnormalities) LBP accounts for nearly 80% of cases, LBP due to adult spinal deformities (ASDs), including scoliosis, remains a major concern. Several patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs)-notably the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Scoliosis Research Society-22 questionnaire (SRS-22), and Core Outcome Measure Instrument (COMI)-are recommended for assessment in these populations. This

BACKGROUND: Wiedemann-Steiner syndrome (WSS) is a genetic malformation syndrome caused by abnormalities in KMT2A. It is characterized by developmental delays, facial dysmorphism, hypertrichosis, failure to thrive, and musculoskeletal anomalies. Expanded applications of exome sequencing have increased the number of confirmed cases, broadening our understanding of the WSS spectrum.
METHODS: We collected and organized the clinical and molecular features of 10 unrelated Korean patients diagnosed with WSS using molecular analysis. Clinical characteristics were presented based on the electronic med

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and sickle cell disease (SCD) are relatively common disorders but their coexistence in an individual is rare. Because of the similarities in the musculoskeletal, central nervous system, and renal manifestations in both diseases, diagnosis of SLE in patients with SCD can be difficult to establish. Both the SCD and sickle cell trait (SCT) can have a cumulative assault in the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD).
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 23-year-old female from an endemic region of SCD in Nepal who presented i

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) type 1 is a chronic pain condition whose pathogenesis involves changes in the central and peripheral nervous systems, with potential genetic contributions. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies report that alterations in resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) may reflect central nervous system anomalies in CRPS type 1. Herein, we describe the case of a father and son with CRPS type 1 who exhibited different rsFC patterns in fMRI analyses correlating with their individual CRPS phenotypes. A 39-year-old male and his 61-year-old father pr

Cone-beam CT (CBCT) is a promising tool with increasing applications in musculoskeletal imaging due to its ability to provide thin-section CT images of the appendicular skeleton and introduce weight bearing, which accounts for loading forces that typically interact with and affect this anatomy. CBCT devices include an x-ray source directly opposite a digital silicon detector panel that performs a single rotation around an object of interest, obtaining thin-section images. Currently, the majority of research has been focused on the utility of CBCT with foot and ankle pathologic abnormalities, d

BACKGROUND: Characterization of motor deficits after brain injury is important for rehabilitation personalization. While studies reported abnormalities in the kinematics of paretic and non-paretic elbow extension for patients with brain injuries, kinematic analysis is not sufficient to explore how patients deal with musculoskeletal redundancy and the energetic aspect of movement execution. Conversely, interarticular coordination and movement kinetics can reflect patients' motor strategies. This study investigates motor strategies of paretic and non-paretic upper limb after brain injury to high

Bladder exstrophy-epispadias-cloacal exstrophy complex (BEEC) is a spectrum of congenital urologic anomalies that involve the bladder, urethra, genitalia, and pelvic musculoskeletal system, and can affect urinary continence, sexual health, and fertility. BEEC includes a wide spectrum of anatomical abnormalities with different levels of severity: epispadias represents the mildest phenotype, classic bladder exstrophy (CBE) is the most common defect, and cloacal exstrophy (CE) - often referred to as omphalocele, exstrophy, imperforate anus, and spinal defects (OEIS) complex - is the most severe f

The KCNA1 gene encodes Kv1.1 voltage-gated potassium channel α subunits, which are crucial for maintaining healthy neuronal firing and preve … hannelopathy. Moreover, the recently identified variants highlight emerging links between KCNA1 and musculoskeletal abnormalities and nystagmus, conditions not typically associated with KCNA1. These findings improve our understanding of KCNA1 channelopathy and promise to enhance personalized diagnosis and treatment for individuals with KCNA1-linked disorders.

Craniosynostosis is a fetal skull condition that occurs when one or multiple sutures merge prematurely. This leads to limited growth perpendicular to the fused suture, which results in compensatory growth of cranial bones parallel to it. Syndromic craniosynostosis ensues when the cranial deformity is accompanied by respiratory, neurological, cardiac, musculoskeletal, and audio-visual abnormalities. The most common syndromes are Apert, Crouzon, Pfeiffer, Muenke, and Saethre-Chotzen syndromes and craniofrontonasal syndrome. Each of these syndromes has distinct genetic mutations that contribute t
