Mucha-Habermann disease in children -- the association with rheumatic diseases.

Two children are described who developed Mucha-Habermann disease as infants. One boy had juvenile rheumatoid arthritis that ran a progressive course over 10 years, although his skin disease responded to a low dose of corticosteroids. One girl had polyarthritis associated with onset of her rash but both resolved over several years without treatment. She has since developed scleroderma followed by a reappearance of her skin lesions.

Columnar epidermal necrosis. A special form of toxic epidermal reaction?

A bizzare erythematosquamous, partially verrucose, crustly or eroded eruption developed in a 6-year-old boy one week after his first measles vaccination. The eruption regressed completely after a two-year clinical course. Histologically, the epidermis showed unique columnar eosinophilic degeneration. There was a dense, mononuclear cell infiltration in the upper part of the dermis. To our knowledge these clinical and histologic features have not been reported in the literature, although they resemble, in some aspects, Kyrle's disease, Mucha-Haberman's disease, or lichen planus verrucosus. Regar

Whole exome sequencing approach to childhood onset familial erythrodermic psoriasis unravels a novel mutation of CARD14 requiring unusual high doses of ustekinumab.

BACKGROUND: Autosomal dominant gain of function mutations in caspase recruitment domain family member 14 (CARD14) is a rare condition associated with plaque-type psoriasis, generalized pustular psoriasis, palmoplantar pustular psoriasis and pityriasis rubra pilaris. Recently, a new CARD14 -associated phenotype defined as CAPE (CARD14-associated papulosquamous eruption) with clinical features of both psoriasis and pityriasis rubra pilaris was reported. We describe a family carrying a novel heterozygous mutation in CARD14 gene, with childhood-onset erythrodermic psoriasis requiring an unusual ex…

308nm excimer laser in dermatology.

308nm xenon-chloride excimer laser, a novel mode of phototherapy, is an ultraviolet B radiation system consisting of a noble gas and halide. The aim of this systematic review was to investigate the literature and summarize all the experiments, clinical trials and case reports on 308-nm excimer laser in dermatological disorders. 308-nm excimer laser has currently a verified efficacy in treating skin conditions such as vitiligo, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, allergic rhinitis, folliculitis, granuloma annulare, lichen planus, mycosis fungoides, palmoplantar pustulosis, pityriasis…

Bone changes in children on long-term treatment with etretinate.

Ten children with disorders of keratinization (ichthyosis, 4, pityriasis rubra pilaris, 2, psoriasis, 2, and palmoplantar keratoderma, 2) were treated with etretinate for 0.5 to 9.6 years. The children ranged from 1.5 to 15.7 years of age. The total dose of etretinate ranged from 700 to 52,596 mg and the maintenance dose, from 0.21 to 0.86 mg/kg/day. Radiographic skeletal surveys were performed at various stages during treatment or following treatment. Bone abnormalities were found in eight children. Six children had periosteal thickening, two periosteal bone resorption, two osteoporosis, thre…

[Non-European open clinical studies on the efficacy and tolerance of ciclopiroxolamine in dermatomycoses (author's transl)].

A survey is given of twenty published open clinical studies carried out outside Europe. They concern the topical action of 6-cyclohexyl-1-hydroxy-4-methyl-2(1H)-pyridone, 2-aminoethanol salt (ciclopiroxolamine, Cic, Hoe 296, Batrafen) in 991 cases of skin disorders, mostly mycoses. 70.7% of the disorders were dermatophytoses, 18.9% candidoses. 6.1% pityriasis versicolor, and 4.2% other skin infections. Four trials were done with 1% Cic cream (o/w-type-emulsion) in 157 dermal disorders and 16 trials with 1% Cic solution (vehicle: polyethylene glycol 400) in 834 cases. Several selected studies a…

Similar Molecular Features in Two Cases of CARD14-Associated Papulosquamous Eruption.

Subjects carrying variants in the caspase recruitment domain family member 14 (CARD14) gene can exhibit characteristics of psoriasis and pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP). The term 'CARD14-associated papulosquamous eruption (CAPE)' is used to describe individuals presenting with symptoms of both conditions. This study aimed to diagnose two cases of CAPE and explore the pathogenic mechanisms, including inflammatory trends and differential features. Whole-exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing identified a novel variant, c.2768T>C and a recurrent variant, c.467T>C, in CARD14 in two unrelated indivi…

Leukocytoclastic vasculitis as a cutaneous manifestation of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 corona virus vaccine (recombinant).

With the present COVID-19 vaccination drive across the world, adverse skin reactions post COVID-19 vaccine is expected. Majority of these reactions seen were transient or local injection site reactions. However, as the larger population is being vaccinated, certain uncommon dermatological presentations including leukocytoclastic vasculitis, pityriasis rosea, and exacerbation of pre-existing autoimmune diseases are now being reported. Among all the COVID-19 vaccines, most of these reactions are seen with messenger ribonucleic acid-based Pfizer/BioNTech (BNT162b2) and Moderna (mRNA-1273) vaccine…

Epstein-Barr virus-associated T/natural killer-cell lymphomas in the elderly: the first consensus meeting in Kofu 2013.

From a clinicopathological conference on nine elderly patients with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated T/natural killer (NK)-cell lymphoma, we have addressed the patients' backgrounds, clinical manifestations, histopathological findings, cytogenesis, complications and prognoses. Among these elderly patients (>65 years old), seven patients had extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKL) with an NK-cell phenotype, and two patients had EBV(+) T-cell lymphomas or lymphoproliferative disorders (LPD) with cutaneous lesions mimicking pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta (PLEVA) or hydr…
