BACKGROUND: Micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (MP-TSCPC) lowers intraocular pressure (IOP), but the mechanisms underlying its IOP-reducing effect remain incompletely understood. Although early postoperative flare elevation has been reported in association with IOP reduction, the relationship during the mid-term postoperative period has not been well characterized. In this study, the mid-term period was defined a priori as 3–18 months after surgery. METHODS: This retrospective exploratory study included 25 eyes of 25 patients who underwent initial MP-TSCPC at Ishida Eye Clinic betwe

BACKGROUND: Coats plus syndrome or cerebroretinal microangiopathy with calcifications and cysts (CMCC) is an exceedingly rare autosomal recessive disorder that predominantly affects the microvasculature in the retina, brain, bones, and gastrointestinal system. Unlike Coats disease, CMCC is bilateral and affects multiple organ systems.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: We report the case of two brothers with Coats Plus syndrome who presented with variable phenotypic expression. One sibling (Patient 1) was thought to have atypical retinopathy of prematurity and was only diagnosed wi

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is an alteration in the development of the immature retina vascularization that frequently occurs in premature infants and is one of the leading causes of childhood blindness worldwide. In threshold stage retinopathy, laser photocoagulation is the standard treatment, particularly in those located in zone II. However, this therapy destroys parts of the retina and can lead to significant eye complications later in life. For this reason, in the last few years, antivascular endothelial growth factor agents are being used as monotherapy or as coadjuvant with laser,

The authors report the first case, to their knowledge, of failed pneumatic retinopexy (PR) for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) repair in a patient with ocular albinism (OA). The failure of PR to spontaneously resolve the subretinal fluid and reattach the retina in this case is suggestive of a deficiency in subretinal fluid reabsorption by the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). These findings suggest that in cases of RRD in OA, primary PR should be avoided since this procedure relies on an adequately functioning RPE pump to reabsorb subretinal fluid prior to laser retinopexy. The use of

Optic disc pit (ODP) is rare congenital cavitary anomaly of the optic disc. Serous detachment of macula is the most common complication of ODP and occurs in 25%-75% of these cases. Although various surgical techniques have been used for the treatment of ODP maculopathy; consensus still eludes as far as the optimal surgical approach is concerned. We herein report a case of ODP maculopathy in a young female treated successfully with vitrectomy, fovea sparing internal limiting membrane flap, and C3F8 tamponade.

The mouse model of laser-induced choroidal neovascularization (CNV) has been used in studies of the exudative form of age-related macular degeneration using both the conventional slit lamp and a new image-guided laser system. A standardized protocol is needed for consistent results using this model, which has been lacking. We optimized details of laser-induced CNV using the image-guided laser photocoagulation system. Four lesions with similar size were consistently applied per eye at approximately double the disc diameter away from the optic nerve, using different laser power levels, and mice
