BACKGROUND: Lindane (gamma-benzene hexachloride), commonly used as a treatment for pediculosis, has been associated with adverse reactions and has recently undergone increased regulation.
OBJECTIVE: We sought to describe the patterns of a large number of lindane exposures reported to poison centers in Texas during 1998-2002.
METHODS: Data on all lindane exposures for pediculosis reported to the Texas Poison Center Network were analyzed.

The scalp is a unique site of the human body that may exhibit some particular physiopathological reactions. A few manifestations are paroxysmal. The main ones are the acute pruritus of pediculosis, and the pruritus at onset of dandruff or seborrhoeic dermatitis. One must add the telogen effuvium after solar exposure or during the post-partum, and the anagen dystrophic alopecia following chemotherapy. The four chlorfenapyr formulations examined provided 100% control of both the nymphal and adult stages of naturally acquired Bovicola bovis (L.) on cattle up to 35 days after application. The influence of an eradication programme for lice on the prevalence of light flecks and spots on cattle hides was studied in 33 dairy cattle herds during a period of two and a half years. The salmon aquaculture industry has adopted the use of invertivorous 'cleaner fishes' (CF) for biological control of sea louse infestations on farmed salmon. At present, ~50 million CF are used annually in Norway alone, with variable success in experimental and industrial contexts.
