A constant ST-elevation was more often described in precordial leads. We presented it in leads II, III, AVF in 16 consecutive patients seeking to establish a link between it and clinical, laboratory, echocardiography, exercise test, and multi-slice computed tomography angiography data. Main complaint of these obese middle-age men was angina pectoris (68.75%). They usually had hypertension, dyslipidemia, concentric left ventricular hypertrophy and non-pathological exercise test. Coronary stenosis >50% was only in one case (6.25%). Despite the typical pain and risk factors, the constant ST-eleva

AIM: The energy loss coefficient (ELCo) has been suggested as a more accurate indicator of aortic stenosis (AS) severity as compared to transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) aortic valve area (AVA). There are little data regarding the optimal location for aortic area (Aa) measurement needed for ELCo calculation and the agreement of ELCo with direct anatomical AVA measurement. The aim of this study was to determine the optimal site of Aa measurement for calculation of the ELCo, using cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) AVA planimetry as the reference standard.
METHODS: We analyzed 69

BACKGROUND: Arterial switch operation (ASO) is the standard surgical choice for D-transposition of great arteries (D-TGA). However, the implications of ASO on pulmonaries, coronaries, and aorta have not been adequately investigated. The current study evaluates arterial morphologic changes post-ASO at intermediate-term surveillance.
METHODS: From May 2021 to May 2022, patients with D-TGA who underwent ASO for more than six months were recruited. Preoperative and operative data were collected. Patients were assessed using echocardiography (ECHO) and multislice CT angiography (MSCT) to evaluate

Congenital pulmonary artery (PA) anomalies comprise a rare and heterogeneous spectrum of disease, ranging from abnormal origins to complete atresia. They may present in early infancy or more insidiously in adulthood, often in association with congenital heart disease such as tetralogy of Fallot or other syndromes. In recent years, cross-sectional imaging, including computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), has become widely utilized for the noninvasive assessment of congenital PA diseases, supplementing echocardiography and at times supplanting invasive angiography. The anatomical variations of internal carotid artery (ICA) are mostly asymptomatic, thus being disregarded and only incidentally diagnosed, with very few symptomatic patients. The awareness of these anomalies is crucial to solve the differential with other neck lesions, preventing accidental injuries during neck surgery. Therefore, the aim of our study is to estimate the prevalence of ICA anomalies, using magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and computed tomography angiography (CTA). 253 patients underwent head and neck MRA and CTA examinations, with multiplanar and volumetric reformations. The facial nerve decompression via mastoid is simple and easy to expose the vertical segment of the facial nerve (VFN). The objective of this study was to find out the relationship between the VFN and anatomic landmarks to facilitate prediction of the location of VFN during facial nerve decompression. The different landmarks were cochlear window (CW), oval window (OW), promontorium tympani (PT), and mastoid antrum (MA). Parameters of 140 patients (280 observations) with healthy middle ears were measured on high-resolution spiral multislice computed tomographic multiplanar reconstruction (MPR)

OBJECTIVES: This study investigates the effect of scanning parameters on the accuracy of measurements from three-dimensional (3D), multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) mandible renderings. A broader range of acceptable parameters can increase the availability of computed tomographic (CT) studies for retrospective analysis.
STUDY DESIGN: Three human mandibles and a phantom object were scanned using 18 combinations of slice thickness, field of view (FOV), and reconstruction algorithm and 3 different threshold-based segmentations. Measurements of 3D computed tomography (3DCT) models and spe

Previous analyses of aortic displacement and distension using computed tomography angiography (CTA) were performed on double-oblique multi-planar reformations and did not consider through-plane motion. The aim of this study was to overcome this limitation by using a novel computational approach for the assessment of thoracic aortic displacement and distension in their true four-dimensional extent. Vessel segmentation with landmark tracking was executed on CTA of 24 patients without evidence of aortic disease. Distension magnitudes and maximum displacement vectors (MDV) including their directio

BACKGROUND: Superior mesenteric artery syndrome is a rare cause of small intestine obstruction, characterized by the compression of the third segment of the duodenum between the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery due to a decreased angle between these vessels, typically attributed to a reduction in mesenteric adipose tissue.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 14-year-old Middle Eastern boy presented with scurvy and failure to thrive, accompanied by constipation, intractable vomiting, abdominal pain, and severe bloating. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and multi-slice computed tomography confirmed th

There is renewed interest in Asia for the development of forensic anthropological standards, partly due to the need for population-specific models to maintain high classification accuracies. At present, there are no known studies utilising morphoscopic standards specific to the Indonesian population. Craniometric analyses can often be time-consuming; morphoscopic assessments are quicker and are also known to be reliable and accurate. One of the most utilised morphoscopic standards for the estimation of skeletal sex is that of Walker (2008). Its application across population groups demonstrated

History A 46-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with decompensated congestive heart failure and pericardial effusion diagnosed at echocardiography. She had no family history of sudden cardiac death. She was born at term and experienced no cardiac events until 4 years of age, at which point she was hospitalized because of three syncopal episodes that were not related to exercise. Over the next 10 years, she experienced two additional episodes of syncope not related to exercise. She had another hospital admission at 12 years of age. Clinical examination did not reveal cyanosis or clubbi

Aortic stenosis is the most prevalent valvular cardiovascular disease affecting the population over the age of 65 years. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) was developed as a minimally invasive surgical intervention to treat aortic stenosis in patients at high risk for surgical complications. Although the most commonly used approach for placement of a transcatheter aortic valve is in retrograde fashion via a transfemoral approach, narrowed luminal diameters, extensive atherosclerotic disease, or significant tortuosity may limit use of this route. In these patients, alternative metho

A case is presented in which pre-autopsy postmortem computed tomography (PMCT) revealed an unexpected brain abscess with a related frontal sinusitis and an erosion of the posterior wall of the frontal sinus. PMCT findings enabled the forensic pathologists to adapt protective measures during autopsy and protect their health from infection. Pre-autopsy PMCT has been also useful in the early differential diagnosis procedure. The complementary use of postmortem imaging and autopsy can improve the quality of forensic death investigations.
