Machine learning for predicting stone-free rate after retrograde intrarenal surgery: Comparison with the T.O.HO. score.

Urolithiasis remains a significant clinical burden, and accurately predicting stone-free status after retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) is essential for optimizing patient counseling and surgical planning. This study compared the predictive performance of a machine learning-based Random Forest (RF) model with the T.O.HO. scoring system, a traditional prediction tool designed for flexible ureteroscopy. A total of 452 patients who underwent RIRS for renal or proximal ureteral calculi at a single tertiary center were retrospectively analyzed. Preoperative demographic and radiological variables…

Regional practice patterns and perceptions of ureteral stricture after ureteroscopy for ureteral stones: A survey study and expert recommendations.

Ureteral stricture is a potentially serious complication following ureteroscopy (URS) for ureteral stones. In the absence of clear guideline recommendations, practices regarding risk factors, prevention, surveillance, and management remain heterogeneous. This study aimed to evaluate multinational urologists' perceptions and real-world practices related to post-URS ureteral strictures and to develop expert consensus recommendations. A multinational, web-based survey was distributed to practicing urologists worldwide through professional networks and platforms. The questionnaire assessed respond

The anatomy of a jackstone: a novel morphometric analysis of a rare urinary calculus.

Jackstone calculi are rare urinary stones characterized by multiple spiculated arms, yet the mechanisms underlying their distinctive morphology remain incompletely understood, in part due to the challenge of quantifying microstructural growth patterns along their complex three-dimensional geometry. In this study, we applied a non-destructive micro-computed tomography morphometric method to analyze a jackstone retrieved from the bladder of a human donor. This approach enabled measurement of incremental layering along individual arms and branches. We hypothesized that distal arm regions would sh

Midnight-noon ebb-flow acupoint application alleviates Double-J stent syndrome after ureteroscopic surgery: a retrospective study.

Double-J (DJ) stent is the most widely used drainage tube in upper urinary tract surgery, but it can cause a series of symptoms such as hematuria, bladder irritation, and low back syndrome. Existing methods are generally low-efficiency and have side effects. Acupoint application therapy, guided by the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory of Midnight-noon ebb-flow (Zi Wu Liu Zhu), is a potential approach to alleviate these clinical symptoms. This study explores the clinical application value of acupoint patching based on the midnight-noon ebb-flow method in patients with DJ stent syndrome.

Impact of sampaio pelvicalyceal system variants on the clinical and surgical outcomes of supine mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy in adults.

Certain anatomical subtypes are associated with more favorable surgical outcomes, highlighting the importance of routine preoperative assessment of the pelvicalyceal system (PCS) in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL). Considering that PNL performed in the supine position can be more technically challenging than in the prone position, the influence of PCS type may be even more pronounced. In this context, we aimed to evaluate the impact of different Sampaio PCS types on the perioperative and postoperative outcomes of supine mini-PNL. Patients aged 18 years or older who underwent supine mini-PNL

Comparative evaluation of temperature generation during laser lithotripsy: thulium fiber laser, pulsed thulium: YAG, and holmium: YAG with pulse modulation in an ex vivo porcine kidney model.

Ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy results in heat generation, raising concern for thermal injury. As laser platforms evolve, comparative assessment of their thermal profiles is increasingly important. This study presents the first comparative evaluation of temperature generation using three contemporary systems: pulsed thulium: YAG (Tm: YAG; Dornier Thulio), thulium fiber laser (TFL; Olympus SOLTIVE), holmium: YAG with pulse modulation (MOSES 2.0; Boston Scientific MOSES 2.0) using manufacturer-recommended dusting settings in an ex vivo porcine kidney model. Eighteen porcine kidney–ureter units

β-carotene attenuates calcium oxalate crystal-induced renal injury through suppression of NF-κB-mediated inflammation.

Calcium oxalate (CaOx) nephrolithiasis represents the most prevalent form of kidney stone disease and is characterized by persistent renal inflammation and tissue damage. β-Carotene, a naturally occurring carotenoid with well-documented anti-inflammatory properties, has demonstrated beneficial effects in a variety of inflammatory conditions; however, its potential role in CaOx crystal-associated renal injury remains largely unexplored. In this study, the effects of β-carotene on CaOx-induced renal damage were evaluated using both cellular and animal models. In human renal proximal tubular epit

Measuring and analyzing objective factors of impacted ureteral stones on Non-Contrast Computed Tomography (NCCT): a retrospective case-control study.

Stone impaction significantly increases the difficulty of ureteroscopic surgery (URS). While various CT-based parameters have been proposed to predict impaction, direct measurement of ureteral wall thickness (UWT) often lacks accuracy due to imaging artifacts and low conspicuity. This study aimed to identify reliable objective factors, particularly the Ureteral Dilation Coefficient (UDC), to predict ureteral stone impaction. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 189 patients who underwent URS between 2022 and 2025. Patients were divided into Impacted (n = 101) and Non-impacted (n = 88) grou

Salidroside attenuates calcium oxalate-induced renal injury via suppression of PANoptosis.

Calcium oxalate (CaOx), the primary constituent of most urinary calculi, triggers inflammatory responses and tissue damage upon entry into renal tubules, playing a pivotal role in nephrolithiasis pathogenesis. Salidroside (SAL), a phenolic glycoside isolated from Rhodiola plants, exhibits diverse pharmacological activities. This study integrated network pharmacology with experimental validation to investigate the therapeutic potential and mechanistic basis of SAL against urinary stones. In both in vitro and in vivo models of CaOx crystal-induced kidney injury, SAL treatment markedly reduced re
