A rare case of transpalpebral migration of a solid silicone explant associated with polymicrobial infection in a pthisical eye is described. The condition resolved completely after surgical removal, wound repair, and antibiotic therapy.

Foreign bodies may be introduced into the paranasal sinuses or cranium through a variety of traumatic or iatrogenic events. Percutaneous transluminal peripheral angioplasty (PTA), with and without stenting, has become an effective, accepted, and safe approach for treating intermittent claudication and critical leg ischemia in selected patients. Percutaneous peripheral interventions are subject to complications that require unique solutions when compared to coronary interventions. We report a case of common iliac artery stenting complicated by stent migration and describe an approach to the management of this problem.

We report herein an extremely rare complication; namely, endo-clip migration into the common bile duct, following laparoscopic cholecystectomy, that occurred in a 57-year-old man. He underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy, but postoperative bile leakage occurred from the cystic duct stump and he was treated by conservative drainage for 1 month. Five years later, he complained of vomiting and pain in the right hypochondrium, and he was admitted for investigations of jaundice and liver dysfunction. The relationship between changes in bone mineral density (BMD) in the proximal tibia and fixation of the tibial component during 2 years postoperatively was investigated in 28 knees. BMD was measured using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, and fixation was determined using radiostereometric analysis. PURPOSE: Removing a dislocated posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) is a hazardous procedure that may lead to severe complications and visual loss. A new technique for handling this complication by means of vitrectomy to help replace the luxated IOL directly in the anterior chamber is described.
METHODS: Five patients (two men and three women) underwent surgery for replacement of a luxated posterior chamber IOL in the vitreous cavity. The average age was 67.4+/-8.9 (years+/-SD); range, 57-79 years. Before and after vitrectomy, specular microscopy study of the corneal endothelium was done.

A term female infant was admitted to the intensive care unit with the diagnosis of tetralogy of Fallot with critical pulmonary stenosis. On the seventh day of life a long saphenous line was inserted that remained without complications until seven days later when the infant appeared septic. A lumbar puncture demonstrated the presence of intra-lipid in the cerebrospinal fluid that we interpreted as due to migration of the saphenous catheter. The child had an uneventful recovery.

A 24-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the upper right hemithorax and neck, with injury to the subclavian and carotid arteries. A cerebral artery pellet embolus resulted in contralateral hemiplegia. The injured vessels were repaired, but the middle cerebral artery pellet was left undisturbed. Neurologic improvement occurred. Fifteen cases of foreign body embolus to cerebral vessels are reviewed and the management of this unusual injury is discussed.
