BACKGROUND: Infectious diseases (ID) pharmacists practice in an important therapeutic area and hold critical roles including leading antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programs and participating in ID clinical services. High United States pharmacist burnout prevalence, before and after the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, ensures pharmacist shortages into the foreseeable future, prioritizing a need to protect ID pharmacist well-being. Accordingly, work exhaustion (exhaustion), low professional fulfillment (fulfillment), and high job turnover intention (turnover) are particularly conc

BACKGROUND: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a leading cause of liver-related mortality and morbidity. Despite effective direct acting antivirals and a simplified treatment algorithm, limited access to HCV treatment in vulnerable populations, including people experiencing homelessness (PEH) and people who inject drugs (PWID), hinders global elimination. Adapting the evidence-based, simplified HCV treatment algorithm to the organizational and contextual realities of non-traditional clinic settings serving vulnerable populations can help overcome specific barriers to HCV care. The first phase of the E

OBJECTIVES: Public Law (P.L.) 110-351, the "Fostering Connections to Success Act," calls for state child welfare agencies to partner with Medicaid and pediatric experts to provide planning and oversight regarding the provision of health and mental health services, including medication, to children in state custody. Recent reports, media cases, and class action lawsuits suggest over-use of psychotropic medications to address the behavioral needs of children in the child welfare system. We examined geographic variability in psychotropic medication use across US child welfare agency catchment are

INTRODUCTION AND CONTEXT: In response to rising and disproportionate overdose deaths, a Massachusetts agency developed a program model (CARE) that incorporated evidence-based and evidence-informed practices to support recovery and overdose prevention for Black and Latino men returning to their communities from incarceration. Recruitment of Black and Latino men at risk of overdose was intended to begin in local jails prior to release. Key program components included culturally-responsive care, person-centered care, support for social determinants of health (SDoH), community building and social

BACKGROUND: Management by walking around (MBWA) is a leadership practice in which head nurses maintain a visible presence in clinical settings, interact directly with nurses, promote open communication, observe workflow and foster a supportive work environment. These practices may contribute to building nurses' trust and encouraging them to speak up.
AIM: To examine the direct and indirect effects of head nurses' MBWA on nurses' voice behaviour with trust as a single mediating variable.
STUDY DESIGN: A cross-sectional correlational design was employed using a convenience sample of nurses wor

BACKGROUND: Digital transformation has fundamentally reshaped healthcare delivery, creating new opportunities for communication, care coordination, and clinical decision-making while introducing emotional and relational challenges for healthcare professionals. Among these challenges, Digital Compassion Fatigue (DCF) and Digital Empathy have emerged as closely related but conceptually distinct constructs. Despite increasing interest in both concepts, their theoretical relationship, defining characteristics, and implications for healthcare practice have not previously been synthesized within a u

Objective Common mental disorders, such as anxiety and depression, have many individual and societal consequences. Various treatments are available for people with these diagnoses, including medication and cognitive behavioral therapy. When these disorders are mild or moderate, psychotherapy is the recommended first-line treatment, given its greater long-term efficacy than pharmacotherapy. However, this is not what is observed in practice: medication is much more widely used than psychotherapy, the latter's accessibility being greatly reduced by long waiting lists. An alternative to these acce

AIMS: High hospitalization rates (39-58% in the literature) of patients admitted to Emergency Department (ED) for transient loss of consciousness (T-LOC) suspected for syncope are still an unresolved issue. The presence of an Observation Unit has reduced hospital admissions and the duration of hospitalization in controlled studies, and a Syncope Unit (SU) in the hospital may reduce hospitalization and increase the number of diagnoses in patients with T-LOC. We assessed the effect of a structured organization on hospitalization rate and outcome.

The goals of this study were to identify characteristics of both behavioral health providers (BHPs) and the patients seen in a primary care behavioral health (PCBH) model of service delivery using prospective data obtained from BHPs. A secondary objective was to explore similarities and differences between these variables within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and United States Air Force (USAF) primary care clinics. A total of 159 VHA and 23 USAF BHPs, representing almost every state in the United States, completed the study, yielding data from 403 patient appointments. BHPs completed

BACKGROUND: The acute care surgery model is a novel notion in the provision of emergency general surgery. To date, several studies have analyzed the effects on patient health outcomes and timeliness of care for nontrauma patients within the scope of acute general surgery and emergencies, but none have assessed the cost benefits of this model.
STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective analysis of patients undergoing appendectomy or cholecystectomy in the setting of acute abdomen was performed to compare data from 2 cohorts, the traditional model from July 2009 to June 2010 and the acute care surgery model

CONTEXT: Home-based comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) has been effective in urban areas but has had little study in rural areas. CGA involves medical history taking, a physical exam, and evaluation of functional status, mental status, cognitive status, gait and balance, medications, vision, extent of social supports, and home safety. We sought to develop and pilot a model of rural home-based CGA to determine whether successful urban models can be adapted to rural areas.
METHODS: This study was a developmental demonstration project with qualitative and quantitative evaluation components

The occupational therapy department at East Carolina University conducted a case study of an intact learning community to assess its potential to enhance the integration of course content. This learning community of students and faculty offers a method of supplementing curricula. The learning community consisted of seven students and two faculty members. Analysis of individual interviews, focus group discussion, and self-administered self-efficacy assessments indicated that students perceived the learning community as enhancing their ability to integrate course material from pediatrics and res

In today's health care environment of merged organizations, downsizing and restructuring, employees can be experiencing a debilitating syndrome called "layoff survivor syndrome." This syndrome can have a crippling effect on workers and organizations as employees struggle to adapt to the changed working environment. This article represents my self-reflection as a nursing unit manager who personally experienced survivor sickness and witnessed its impact on the unit staff that I was leading at the time. The work of Noer (1993) is explored to clarify the syndrome and describe how the nursing staff
