Despite extensive research on Saccharomyces cerevisiae functional genomics, approximately 880 out of ~6,000 open reading frames (ORFs) remain uncharacterised. In this study we propose a method for characterising genes with limited prior functional knowledge using an automated laboratory platform, in conjunction with several hypothesis instantiation methods. We demonstrate this method by investigating YGR067C, an uncharacterised ORF hypothesised to regulate respiration during the diauxic shift. Predictions of the first-order effects of deletion were obtained by curating a list of pathways relev

In recent decades, there has been a growing interest in applying robotic technology to cardiac surgery. The advantages of robotic technology, such as magnified vision, precise robotic instruments and 360° movement of robotic arms, have attracted the cardiac community to reduce the invasiveness of the procedure, postoperative risks, and improve clinical outcomes. While in the United States the adoption of robotic assistance immediately gained widespread acceptance (approximately 1900 cases per year), in Europe the beginning has been slower with a significant growth in the last 10 years. The rob

Retroperitoneal lymph node dissection remains a critical operation in selected patients with testicular cancer, including defined settings of early metastatic disease, post-chemotherapy residual masses, and emerging indications for primary retroperitoneal lymph node dissection in low-volume seminoma. Despite advances in minimally invasive surgery, this operation remains technically demanding because of its proximity to the great vessels, renal hilum, lumbar branches, ureters, and sympathetic neural structures. To present a standardized stepwise technical guide for robotic retroperitoneal lymph

BACKGROUND: The adoption of robotic partial nephrectomy has grown significantly over the past decade, prompting a debate on the merits of transperitoneal versus retroperitoneal surgical access. This study evaluated the association between surgical route (transperitoneal, TRPN; retroperitoneal, RRPN) and pentafecta achievement using a detailed location classification.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 368 patients who underwent RPN. Tumor location was classified into four main categories (anteromedial, AM; anterolateral, AL; posteromedial, PM; posterolateral, PL). Inverse probability of tre

A 34-year-old female underwent robotic-assisted laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and was readmitted with large-volume chylous ascites. Initial non-operative management with aspiration and drainage was attempted but failed, leading to reaccumulation. This necessitated re-operation. Chyloperitoneum after sleeve gastrectomy is rare.

PURPOSE: Median arcuate ligament syndrome is characterized by chronic abdominal pain due to compression and neurofibrosis of the celiac trunk. While it frequently presents in adulthood, adolescents can be affected. The syndrome is often treated with an open median arcuate ligament release. Robotic surgery has grown in popularity for complex cases to improve visualization and post-operative recovery, however there is limited data on the feasibility and benefits of robotic median arcuate ligament release compared to an open procedure, particularly in a pediatric cohort.
METHODS: A retrospective

Robotic aortic valve replacement is the latest advance in the field of aortic valve intervention and is increasingly being adopted by various centres with favourable early results. It allows surgeons to implant any commercially available aortic valve prosthesis (sutureless, biological, mechanical) in a surgically conventional manner, while offering minimal surgical trauma (sternum-free, rib-free, pectoralis muscle sparing). We present a step-by-step standardized procedure of robotic aortic valve replacement with a mechanical prosthesis for a young female patient with severe symptomatic aortic

Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is the primary treatment for end-stage hip diseases, and its clinical outcomes mainly depend on the accuracy of prosthesis implantation. Robot-assisted THA (RTHA), with its advantages in prosthesis implantation, overcomes the uncertainty of component positioning in conventional surgery and has become a research hotspot in joint surgery in recent years. This article systematically reviews international RTHA systems such as ROBODOC and MAKO, as well as domestic RTHA systems including the ARTHROBOT Joint Replacement Surgical Robot and the LONGWELL THA Surgical Robot,

Despite advances in robot-assisted rehabilitation, existing control strategies often lack real-time personalization to account for subject-specific physiological capabilities, limiting the effectiveness of assist-as-needed interventions. Moreover, there is a further need to account for the patient's physiological functional capacity (PFC) in the design of such assistive technology. Here, an attempt has been made to create an Assist-as-Needed (AAN) Controller that works in collaboration with a Smart Avatar. The Smart Avatar mimics the patient's capabilities by learning in real-time and informin

BACKGROUND: Long-construct fusions extending into the pelvis require durable sacropelvic fixation to withstand biomechanical forces. Traditional iliac screws provide strong fixation but are limited by wound complications, offset-connector requirements, and hardware prominence. S2-alar-iliac screws improve soft-tissue outcomes but may violate the sacroiliac joint, contribute to postoperative sacroiliac joint pain, and demonstrate variable fusion rates. With advances in robotics, medialized iliac trajectories may re-establish the advantages of iliac fixation while reducing complication profiles.…
