Massive retinal gliosis (MRG) is a rare, benign intraocular condition that may develop in association with long-standing eye conditions including chronic inflammation, vascular disorders, glaucoma, trauma, or congenital abnormalities. It is thought to represent a nonneoplastic reactive tissue response to retinal injury. Here, we describe an unusual case of bilateral MRG in association with retinopathy of prematurity. PURPOSE: Various materials are used in orbital blowout fracture repair. We describe a series of patients with orbital blowout fractures that were repaired using porous polyethylene (Medpor) sheets.
METHODS: A non-comparative interventional case series is described of 30 blowout fractures of 30 patients aged 7-60 years (median 29 years) who underwent orbital blowout fracture repair with Medpor sheets. BACKGROUND: Few cases of corneal perforation in a premature infant have been described in the literature.
METHODS: Identical twins were born at 30-weeks gestation. One twin developed a corneal epithelial defect, infiltration, and perforation with extrusion of intraocular contents, requiring an emergency penetrating keratoplasty. This is a retrospective study of corneal ulcers caused by Pythium insidiosum in Ramathibodi Hospital from 1988 to 1998. The clinical data was from the medical records of 10 patients, of which 8 had complete information. Mean age of the patients was 49.8 years old and seven were farmers. MR imaging is frequently used to diagnose uveal melanomas due to the characteristic short T2 relaxation time. T2 may be significantly prolonged within 2 h after ingestion of glucose and fructose due to changed water distribution in the melanoma. Twenty-three patients were treated with radon therapy for choroidal melanoma at the Ohio State University Hospitals, Columbus, between 1968 and 1976. We present an 18-year experience, including follow-up of at least eight years, in all those receiving therapy. Three patients (13%) died of metastatic disease. A consecutive series of 450 eyes enucleated because of a malignant melanoma of the choroid or ciliary body was reviewed in an effort to establish the incidence of ocular inflammation or intraocular hemorrhage as the initial clinical manifestation.
