A Proposed Blueprint for Operative Performance Training, Assessment, and Certification.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to propose an evidence-based blueprint for training, assessment, and certification of operative performance for surgical trainees. SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA: Operative skill is a critical aspect of surgical performance. High-quality assessment of operative skill therefore has profound implications for training, accreditation, certification, and the public trust of the profession. Current methods of operative skill assessment for surgeons rely heavily on global assessment strategies across a very broad domain of procedures. There is no mechanism to assure tec

The Public Health Road Map to Respond to the Growing Dementia Crisis.

As the proportion of older adults in the United States is projected to increase dramatically in the coming decades, it is imperative that public health address and maintain the cognitive health of this growing population. More than 5 million Americans live with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) today, and this number is projected to more than double by 2050. The public health community must be proactive in outlining the response to this growing crisis. Promoting cognitive decline risk reduction, early detection and diagnosis, and increasing the use and availability of timely dat

"Life Starts for Me Again." The Social Impact of Psychology on Programs for Homeless People: Solidarity Networks for the Effectiveness of Interventions.

The role of psychology in the improvement of people's lives is consistent, according to the scientific literature review. More and more studies within psychology, and other social sciences, are pointing out the importance of the quality of social interactions on physical and mental health and upon perceived wellbeing. When talking about homelessness, psychology has served these individuals mostly by informing intervention programs related to preventing and responding to substance abuse, healthcare, sexual risks, or mental illnesses, and these are key problems that psychology has also studied a

Varying conceptions of competence: an analysis of how health sciences educators define competence.

CONTEXT: Current debate in medical education focuses on the nature of 'competency-based medical education' (CBME) and whether or not it should be adopted. Many medical schools claim to run 'competency-based' curricula, but the structure of their programmes can differ radically. A review of the existing CBME literature reveals that little attention has been paid to defining the concept of competence. A straightforward examination of what is meant by the term 'competence' is noticeably missing from the literature, despite its impact on medical training. OBJECTIVES: This paper aims to illustrate

Implementing a digital comprehensive myopia prevention and control strategy for children and adolescents in China: a cost-effectiveness analysis.

BACKGROUND: Children and adolescents' myopia is a major public problem. Although the clinical effect of various interventions has been extensively studied, there is a lack of national-level and integral assessments to simultaneously quantify the economics and effectiveness of comprehensive myopia prevention and control programs. We aimed to compare the cost-effectiveness between traditional myopia prevention and control strategy, digital comprehensive myopia prevention and control strategy and school-based myopia screening program in China. METHODS: A Markov model was used to compare the cost

Public health surveillance systems involving Indigenous Peoples: a scoping review protocol to inform circumpolar mental health and wellness surveillance.

INTRODUCTION: Mental health and well-being are urgent priorities across circumpolar regions, where suicide and psychological distress contribute substantially to premature mortality and disability. Indigenous communities in Arctic and sub-Arctic settings continue to face profound inequities linked to colonisation and intergenerational trauma, while also advancing wellness frameworks grounded in cultural continuity, language, land and self-determination. Progress in mental health promotion and suicide prevention depends on timely, consistent and culturally relevant population-level information.

Lactate-Informed Exercise Prescription in Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease: A Translational Framework for Preserving Cognition, Mobility, and Independence.

BACKGROUND: This narrative review proposes a conceptual, lactate-informed framework for individualized exercise prescription in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Exercise is recommended in these populations, but fixed external doses do not account for heterogeneity in disease stage, frailty, sarcopenia, cardiovascular risk, or recovery. MAIN TEXT: We integrate clinical exercise evidence, geriatric assessment, lactate physiology, muscle-brain signaling, implementation science, and trial methodology. The framework uses peripheral blood lactate as one component of a m…

Long-acting HIV treatment and prevention: a bibliometric analysis and science mapping.

Long-acting antiretroviral therapy and long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) have rapidly become prominent areas of HIV research. To our knowledge, as of June 30, 2026, no previous bibliometric study had jointly mapped the long-acting HIV treatment and prevention literatures within a single Scopus-based science-mapping framework. We conducted a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of English-language research articles and reviews indexed in Scopus, with no restriction on publication year. A total of 1573 publications met the inclusion criteria. Publication output, citation patterns, colla

Limited Visibility and Perception of the Clinical Relevance of Clopidogrel Pharmacogenetics in Cardiology Literature.

Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet agent widely utilized in cardiology. It is a prodrug activated in the liver by the cytochrome P450 isoform CYP2C19. Variability in the CYPC2C19 gene influences the activation and efficacy of clopidogrel. This is covered in guidelines from the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium, the Dutch Pharmacogenetics Working Group, and more recently the UK Centre of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation in Pharmacogenomics. Despite this extensive guidance, pharmacogenetic information is rarely used to guide clopidogrel prescription in cardiology pat
