BACKGROUND: The knee joint remains the most affected joint in extra-intestinal manifestations of Crohn's disease (CD). Given the increasing prevalence of CD and overall demand for total knee arthroplasty (TKA), it is likely that an increasing number of patients with CD will require TKA. The purpose of this study was to assess the inpatient postoperative complication in patients with CD undergoing TKA.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We queried the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) database between the years of 2016 to 2019, including a total of 558,371 patients who underwent primary TKA. Among these,

INTRODUCTION: The medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) is the main restraining force against lateral patellar displacement in the first 20 degrees of knee flexion and is often disrupted following patellar subluxation or dislocation. MPFL reconstruction is commonly performed to restore patellar stability but requires autograft harvest with associated donor site morbidity. The aim of this study was to assess the five-year outcomes of MPFL repair performed with suture tape augmentation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: All patients who underwent isolated MPFL repair for recurrent patellar instability bet

BACKGROUND: Kashin-Beck disease (KBD) is a disabling osteoarticular disease involving growth and joint cartilage. Early diagnosis can effectively prevent the progress of the disease. However, the early diagnosis of it is still very difficult. Our aim was to study the knee joint lesions of a rat KBD model using ultra-high field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and compare it with X-ray imaging to analyze the possible MRI manifestations of KBD, and to further explore ways to determine the pathological damage of KBD in the early stage.
METHODS: A total of 96 Wistar rats were selected and randoml

INTRODUCTION: The goal of mobile-bearing total knee arthroplasties (TKA) with an anatomical trochlea is to reduce polyethylene wear, the risk of loosening, and patellofemoral complications. Rotating mobile-bearing SCORE(®) TKA was designed according to these principles with standard instrumentation for component placement and a specific computer navigation system, Amplivision(®).
HYPOTHESIS: We hypothesized that the results of SCORE(®) TKA would be satisfactory and better using computer navigation with or without patellar resurfacing and that there would be no specific patellofemoral complica

INTRODUCTION: Lateral patellar instability is characterized by patellar subluxation or dislocation secondary to traumatic injury, ligamentous laxity, or other pathoanatomy of the knee. Management often requires surgical stabilization via a tibial-tubercle osteotomy. The purpose of this study is to determine if patella alta is a risk factor for poor postoperative outcomes and return to activity following a medializing tibial-tubercle osteotomy in a young, active-duty military population.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective review of 42 military patients who received a medializing ti

OBJECTIVE: Femoral neck fractures in transfemoral amputees are rare, and their management remains controversial, particularly in individuals with short residual limb lengths. Traditional approaches to total hip arthroplasty (THA), such as the anterolateral, Hardinge, and posterior methods, present significant challenges, including difficulties in residual limb manipulation, femoral exposure, and postoperative swelling. The direct anterior approach (DAA), a minimally invasive technique, has not been previously reported for THA in this patient population. This case report aims to evaluate the fe

BACKGROUND: The medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL), a chief medial restraint preventing lateral patellar dislocation, often is reconstructed in children with recurrent dislocation. The femoral MPFL attachment can be difficult to delineate at surgery. Therefore, the origin of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) frequently is used to approximate the reattachment site. The purpose of our study was to compile normative data from MR imaging examinations over different patient ages, to determine the effect of growth on the relationship of the MCL origin site to the distal femoral physis and medi

Background. Injuries of the tibial nerve are a rather rare neuropathy of the peripheral nervous system. The tibial nerve may be injured at any point from the distal thigh to the foot. The most common causes of lesions include bone fractures, knee and ankle dislocations, wounds, compartment syndrome, and iatrogenic injuries. Material and methods. We studied 39 patients with tibial nerve injuries, analyzing the causes of lesion and the mechanism of injury. The outcome of surgical treatment was evaluated in 25 cases. We evaluated the muscle strength based on the BMRC scale (M0- M5) and sensory re

This retrospective study was made to evaluate the significance of different sports activities that cause variable haemarthrosis with intraarticular lesions of the knee joint. Throughout 1984 to 1988 arthroscopy was performed in 337 patients with acute haemarthrosis. The average time between trauma and arthroscopy was 8 days. ACL rupture was diagnosed in most of these cases. Regarding the different types of sport activities ACL lesions were found in skiers (74%), other winter sports (47%), soccer (53%), tennis and squash (58%), athletics (41%) and indoor (61%). Peripheral meniscus tears associa

Osteoarthritis most frequently occurs in the hip and knee joints. The present state of art of its treatment considering orthopaedic and surgical measures recommended are discussed. Preoperative management of the patients advising them, amongst others, on joint-preserving behaviour after surgery seems particularly important. Medication and electro-medical therapy in early manifestations of arthritis are reviewed. The importance of joint-preserving interventions, which have been somewhat neglected in the past years, is particularly stressed. Advantages and disadvantages of total joint arthroplas

PURPOSE: Patellar height is a risk factor for patellar instability, correlated with the tibia length/femur length (T/F) ratio. This study aimed to explore the changes in the T/F ratio in patients with patella instability and the potential correlation with the morphology of the patellofemoral joint and extensor moment arm.
METHOD: A retrospective analysis was performed to assess the ratio of lower limb length morphological characteristics of the patellofemoral by full weight-bearing long-leg standing radiographs, magnetic resonance imaging, and computed tomography in 75 patients with patellar
