Selective Fetal Growth Restriction in Monochorionic Twins: Updates and New Directions.

Selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR) in monochorionic twin pregnancies is a major contributor to perinatal morbidity and mortality with unique pathophysiological mechanisms and management challenges. sFGR is defined by significant intertwin discordance in estimated fetal weight and abnormal Doppler findings, employing the Gratacós classification (types I, II, and III) for risk stratification and management. Epidemiological data indicate sFGR affects 10% to 26% of monochorionic twins, with early-onset cases associated with the highest risk of adverse outcomes. Surveillance strategies inclu

Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) drugs compared to laser photocoagulation for treatment of type 1 retinopathy of prematurity.

INTRODUCTION: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a condition that affects preterm infants, being the second leading cause of childhood blindness worldwide. The most commonly used treatments are cryotherapy or laser photocoagulation, but over the last few years, anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) drugs have gradually gained more adherents, mainly in the treatment of patients with type 1 retinopathy of prematurity (ET- ROP) Therefore, it is important to summarize the existing evidence to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anti-VEGF drugs in type 1 retinopathy of prematurity.

Virus containment box for retinopathy of prematurity screening and laser.

PURPOSE: Health care workers are susceptible to contracting infection with COVID-19 by aerosol transmission. This is a risk while examining and/or treating an un-sedated neonate in retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening and treatment. But screening for neonates for ROP and treating with laser, when required, should not be delayed to avoid the blindness. We describe a cost-effective method of containing aerosols generated during such a procedure in an un-sedated baby. METHODS: An acrylic transparent containment box was prepared to accommodate an average-sized infant. The box had four walls

Current and future trends in treatment of severe retinopathy of prematurity.

Treatment for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is indicated when type 1 disease is present. The Early Treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ETROP) clinical trial established that laser treatment of severe ROP has a high rate of visual and anatomic success. Recently, anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) drugs such as bevacizumab have been used in lieu of or in addition to laser treatment. Results are promising, but long-term outcomes and systemic side effects are unknown. Future studies are needed to determine whether anti-VEGF treatment is superior to laser and, if so, which drug
