METHODS: We analyzed retrospectively 16 patients between 1976 and 1993 (six men, ten women, mean age: 49-year-old) suffering from connectivitis. HIV-negative and receiving corticosteroids, combined for six of them with immunosuppressive therapy, and suffering from tuberculosis.

One hundred and ninety-two patients with peripheral lymphadenopathy were screened and 80 patients with tubercular lymphadenitis were studied. Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a rare and benign lymphadenopathy of unknown etiology. Usually, it is an isolated and self-limiting condition requiring no specific therapy; however, in some cases, it may be associated with an autoimmune disease. Here, we report three cases of KFD developing an associated autoimmune connective disorder: the first case presented with Sjögren's syndrome, and the other two had a diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus.

BACKGROUND: Kikuchi Fujimoto disease is an uncommon benign condition of necrotizing histiocytic lymphadenitis commonly seen in East Asian and Japanese populations. It commonly presents with fever, cervical lymphadenopathy, and elevated inflammatory markers. Diagnosis of Kikuchi Fujimoto disease is based on histopathological studies of the involved lymph nodes. The presentation of Kikuchi Fujimoto disease can mimic many sinister conditions including lymphoma. Treatment is mainly supportive provided that accurate diagnosis is made and sinister conditions like lymphoma ruled out.

We report a case of penile carcinoma presenting as an inguinal bubo in a young man. The associated painful genital ulcer and history of high-risk sexual behaviour raised a strong suspicion of a sexually transmitted infection. We review the literature for similar cases, highlight the similarities with venereal disease and discuss the differential diagnosis of inguinal bubo.
