Machine learning prediction for menopause women with low bone mass: a multicenter and retrospective study.

Early diagnosis of postmenopausal osteoporosis provides an opportunity to detect and prevent fractures. This study uses machine learning (ML) techniques to enhance the predictive ability for low bone mass (LBM) risk. A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed, including 3,738 menopausal women from a hospital (the internal validation dataset) and 1,008 menopausal women from the community (the external validation dataset) between December 2014 and February 2022. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operation (LASSO) and elastic net methods are employed to screen the variables. ML

Prediction of twin preterm birth based on quadratic discriminant analysis and electrohysterogram.

Preterm birth is a significant cause of adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. Clinical evidence demonstrates a significantly higher incidence of preterm birth in twin pregnancies compared to singletons. This study evaluates the feasibility of using electrohysterogram in combination with quadratic discriminant analysis models to predict preterm birth in twin pregnancies. Electrohysterogram signals were obtained from 35 twin-pregnant women. Robust electrohysterogram features were selected to construct quadratic discriminant analysis models for preterm birth prediction. A decision-level fusion met

Multimodal Early Birth Weight Prediction Using Multiple Kernel Learning.

In this work, a novel multimodal learning approach for early prediction of birth weight is presented. Fetal weight is one of the most relevant indicators in the assessment of fetal health status. The aim is to predict early birth weight using multimodal maternal-fetal variables from the first trimester of gestation (Anthropometric data, as well as metrics obtained from Fetal Biometry, Doppler and Maternal Ultrasound). The proposed methodology starts with the optimal selection of a subset of multimodal features using an ensemble-based approach of feature selectors. Subsequently, the selected va

Diagnosis of T-cell-mediated kidney rejection in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues using RNA-Seq-based machine learning algorithms.

Molecular diagnosis is being increasingly used in transplant pathology to render more objective and quantitative determinations that also provide mechanistic and prognostic insights. This study performed RNA-Seq on biopsies from kidneys with stable function (STA) and biopsies with classical findings of T-cell-mediated rejection (TCMR). Machine learning tools were used to develop prediction models for distinguishing TCMR and STA samples using the top genes identified by DSeq2. The prediction models were tested on 703 biopsies with Affymetrix chip gene expression profiles available in the public

Links between physical activity, time-in-range and glucose predictability in people with type 1 diabetes.

BACKGROUND: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) management remains particularly challenging in the presence of external disturbances such as stress or physical activity (PA). The glycemic impact of PA is still not fully understood and lacks standardized modeling approaches. This work seeks to describe the relationship between PA, time-in-range and glucose predictability in people with T1D (PwT1D). METHODS: This study uses data from the Type 1 Diabetes and Exercise Initiative (T1DEXI) clinical trial, the largest trial to date in PwT1D undergoing both free-living and structured exercise. A characterization p

Machine Learning Prediction of Obesity Development in Children With Overweight Using Longitudinal Body Composition Data.

BACKGROUND: Children with overweight (body mass index [BMI] between the 85th and 95th percentiles) represent a critical target for obesity prevention, with obesity progression rates 10- to 20-fold higher than normal-weight peers. OBJECTIVES: This study developed machine learning models to predict obesity in this high-risk group using anthropometric and bioelectrical impedance analysis parameters. METHODS: We analysed longitudinal data from 2801 overweight Korean children aged 7-9 years. XGBoost models integrated anthropometric measurements, bioelectrical impedance-derived body composition, s

Machine Learning Models Used to Predict Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Growth and Rupture: A Systematic Review and Critical Appraisal.

BACKGROUND: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) rupture remains a major cause of mortality, and diameter-based surveillance is an imperfect predictor of risk. Some aneurysms rupture below operative thresholds, whereas others remain stable despite exceeding them. Machine learning (ML) may improve risk stratification by integrating geometric, hemodynamic, radiomic, and clinical data. We performed a systematic review to evaluate ML models predicting AAA growth and rupture, characterize their performance, and assess readiness for clinical translation. METHODS: A Preferred Reporting Items for Systemat

Ensemble disease gene prediction by clinical sample-based networks.

BACKGROUND: Disease gene prediction is a critical and challenging task. Many computational methods have been developed to predict disease genes, which can reduce the money and time used in the experimental validation. Since proteins (products of genes) usually work together to achieve a specific function, biomolecular networks, such as the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network and gene co-expression networks, are widely used to predict disease genes by analyzing the relationships between known disease genes and other genes in the networks. However, existing methods commonly use a universal

Artificial intelligence applications in allergic rhinitis diagnosis: Focus on ensemble learning.

BACKGROUND: The diagnosis of allergic rhinitis (AR) primarily relies on symptoms and laboratory examinations. Due to limitations in outpatient settings, certain tests such as nasal provocation tests and nasal secretion smear examinations are not routinely conducted. Although there are clear diagnostic criteria, an accurate diagnosis still requires the expertise of an experienced doctor, considering the patient's medical history and conducting examinations. However, differences in physician knowledge and limitations of examination methods can result in variations in diagnosis. OBJECTIVE: Artif
