A case of chronic lead poisoning is described in a woman presenting with abdominal pain due to cutaneous absorption of a lead soap. We have found no other case of intoxication by this route in the literature.

The intestinal enzymes, lactase, sucrase, maltase, isomaltase, and glucoamylase, are at mature levels in the term fetus. A sensitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay is described for paracoccidioidomycosis serodiagnosis, with antigen represented by filtrates from Paracoccidioides brasiliensis cultures. Chickens and turkeys were fed from hatching basal diets to which tocopherol was added at levels of 10, 50 and 250 mg/kg for 28 days. During the last 4 days [3H]tocopherol and 141Ce were included in the diets. The influence of a typical 60-mL dose of subsalicylate bismuth (Pepto-Bismol) on the absorption of 200 mg of orally administered doxycycline hyclate was studied. After oral administration of 400 mg curcumin to rats, about 60% of the dose was absorbed. No curcumin was detectable in urine. Hydrocephalus was induced in 10 mongrel dogs by injection of a silastic mixture into the basal cisterns. The posterior part of the left lateral ventricle was isolated from the remainder of the ventricular system by introducing Pantopaque into both lateral ventricles and the third ventricle with the animals in prone positions. Labeled albumin injected into the posterior part of the left lateral ventricle was shown to enter the blood stream before it was shown in the fourth ventricle or vallecula. This provides qualitative evidence of transventricular absorption.
