Risk factors for injury accidents among moped and motorcycle riders.

OBJECTIVE: To study and quantify the effect of factors related to the riders of powered two-wheelers on the risk of injury accident involvement. METHODOLOGY: Based on national data held by the police from 1996 to 2005, we conducted a case-control study with responsibility for the accident as the event of interest. We estimated the odds ratios for accident responsibility. Making the hypothesis that the non-responsible riders in the study are representative of all the riders on the road, we thus identified risk factors for being responsible for injury accidents. The studied factors are age, gen

Investigation of human body potential measured by a non-contact measuring system.

A human body is occasionally electrified in a room. This charged object will be a source of electrostatic accidents, including the malfunction of electronic equipment. Hence, prevention of these accidents is required. Accidents occasionally occur, even though antistatic clothes and shoes are used. One of the causes for these accidents is that there is a lack of the preventive measures. This situation occurs when using, for example, unconductive wax. In this study, human body potential (voltage) is measured using a non-contact measuring system. An investigation of the human body's voltage when

Primary school accidents.

Five hundred and eighteen Otago primary school accidents are described. Falls and accidents described as striking against or struck by a person or object, represented 82 percent of all the accidents. Nearly a third of all accidents resulted in fractures; the upper limb being the most common site of injury. Playthings and sports equipment were involved in over a quarter of the accidents. Of the accidents described, falls from playground equipment offer the best potential for the prevention of injury.

[Work-related diseases of the skin].

Work-related diseases of the skin are aetiologically completely different diseases. The common denominator is that they are all triggered by occupational activity. Allergic and cumulative irritant contact eczema occur the most frequently. Early reporting of occupational dermatosis to the accident insurance carrier should first and foremost lead to adequate preventive measures at the workplace. Early recognition, systematic therapy and rapidly implemented prevention should enable the affected person to continue to work in his or her occupation. To implement appropriate preventive measures, the

Farm safety.

Accident and safety are related terms; the higher the accident rate in any industry, the greater is the need for safety measures designed to … ecessary safeguards, with the added requirement on a worker to make use of them. It is a feature of accident prevention work that it never reaches a stage when it can be regarded as complete. Even when a reduction in accidents has been achieved, the effort must be sustained or the trend will be quickly reversed.

Occupational Fatigue and Multidimensional Traffic Risk Outcomes Among Motorcycle-Based Food Delivery Workers: Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Although motorcycle-based food delivery workers face a significant risk of accidents, previous research has primarily focused on traffic accidents, neglecting the multidimensional nature of safety, which includes perceived accident risk, near-miss experiences, and accident-related anxiety. OBJECTIVE: This study addresses this gap by investigating how occupational fatigue and health behaviors are associated with the Traffic Accident Risk Index (TARI) and its subdomains (near-miss experiences, self-rated accident anxiety, and other-rated accident anxiety). METHODS: A cross-sectiona

Accidents at work among employed persons in Germany: Results from the 2024 'Health in Germany' panel.

BACKGROUND: Accidents at work can result in injuries, health care utilisation, incapacity to work and long-term consequences. Population surveys complement statistics on notifiable work-related accidents, among other things by also capturing less severe accidents at work. METHODS: The authors analysed data from the 2024 'Health in Germany' panel. Restricted to the most recent unintentional injury requiring medical treatment, the indicator describes the occurrence of an accident at work among employed persons aged 18 to 70 years. RESULTS: Based on the indicator, 'most recent unintentional inj

Accidents among high school pupils in Israel: a recurrent disease?

Accidents are unexpected events usually producing injury. Many victims of trauma have a history of recurrent accidents. This study is a preliminary effort to verify the hypothesis that accidents may be considered as a recurrent disease in certain families; these children and families belong to a 'high risk group'. Two-hundred seventy-nine high school pupils participated in the study. Every pupil had experienced 1.7(+/- 1.7) mild to serious injuries that necessitated medical treatment during the years of elementary and high school. The geographical location of accidents was as follows: 26.4% we

Biomechanical assessment of soft tissue cervical spine disorders and expert opinion in low speed collisions.

The multidisciplinary research of injury mechanisms and injury prevention requires the assessment of the technical and biomechanical circumstances of a collision; moreover, the causality assessment in the individual cases is facilitated by taking these aspects into account. In fact, only specially trained engineers and biomechanical experts are in a position to evaluate these relevant basic facts. In many crucial court cases, important technical factors such as collision angle, structural stiffness, extent of intrusion and the vehicle's velocity change are often ignored. The purely medical cau

[Prevention of Occupational Injuries Related to Hands: Calculation of Subsequent Injury Costs for the Austrian Social Occupational Insurance Institution (AUVA)].

MOTIVATION: Occupational injuries cause short-term, direct costs as well as long-term follow-up costs over the lifetime of the casualties. Due to shrinking budgets accident insurance companies focus on cost reduction programmes and prevention measures. For this reason, a decision support system for consequential cost calculation of occupational injuries was developed for the main Austrian social occupational insurance institution (AUVA) during three projects. METHODS: This so-called cost calculation tool combines the traditional instruments of accounting with quantitative methods such as micr

Major lower extremity lawn mower injuries in children.

Between 1983 and 1993, 16 children with 18 lower extremity power lawn mower-related injuries were treated at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Eleven of 16 patients (69%) were bystanders or nonoperators. The average age at injury was 4 years 9 months. Length of follow-up averaged 3 years 10 months. There was an average of 4.9 procedures per patient. Fourteen of the 18 limbs injured required eventual amputation (78%). We propose a new classification of lawn mower injuries in children. The most common injury (16 of 18 limbs) was a shredding type injury and was either intercalary or distal. Th
