Clinical assessment of 40 patients subjected to alveolar distraction osteogenesis.

Alveolar bone distraction is a technique used to restore vertical defects in the edentulous alveolar ridge. The gradual growth of bone tissue has a predictable result, allowing the placement of an osseointegrated implant in an ideal position. In this study, the effectiveness of the alveolar distraction technique was verified, using an extraosseous device. The bone augmentation average was 9.5 mm in 40 patients, showing a 92.5% success rate.

Evaluation of osteogenic effects following alveolar bone augmentation with corticotomy.

OBJECTIVE: Alveolar bone augmentation with corticotomy is commonly used in orthodontic treatment for patients with insufficient alveolar bone, which can increase the amount of alveolar bone, facilitate and accelerate tooth movement. However, its long-term osteogenic effect is seldom reported. This study preliminarily investigated the osteogenic effects following alveolar ridge augmentation using two types of bone grafts through three-dimensional radiographic evaluation and histomorphometric analysis. METHODS: First, 50 cases of malocclusion associated with alveolar bone defects were enrolled i…

Volumetric Analysis of Ridge Preservation Using Bio-Oss® Collagen: A Retrospective Cohort Study Based on CBCT and Panoramic Radiographs.

Background and Objectives: Tooth loss affects quality of life and chewing ability and is associated with natural ridge resorption after extraction. Implants are a viable option for the anchorage of removable or fixed prostheses. Successful implant placement requires adequate bone availability. To minimize bone loss after extraction and to avoid the need for additional augmentation before implant placement, ridge preservation techniques are employed. The aim of this study was to assess volume changes in extraction sockets after ridge preservation with a collagen-based bovine/porcine xenogenic m

Novel early vertical ridge augmentation technique.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Multiple augmentation protocols are documented in the literature to rebuild the deficient alveolar ridge after tooth extraction; however, achieving adequate vertical augmentation remains the most challenging goal. This study demonstrated a novel surgical technique of early vertical ridge augmentation for post-dental extraction. This technique offers several biological and technical advantages regarding the timing of the procedure and its relative simplicity compared to other complex techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study consisted of 50 extraction site

Hard- and soft-tissue augmentation around dental implant using ridge split and connective tissue graft for esthetic rehabilitation of atrophic anterior maxilla.

Esthetic rehabilitation of edentulous site with horizontal ridge deficiency presents as one of the most challenging situations in implant practice. With the increase in popularity of dental implants, augmentation of the alveolar ridge and soft tissue has also become a routine procedure in most of the cases. Although hard-tissue augmentation is performed by other specialists also, a periodontist needs to master the skills of soft-tissue management to deliver esthetic and functional results in implant-supported prostheses. This case report presents a single-staged ridge split approach using piez

Mandibular bone graft in the anterior maxilla for single-tooth implants. Presentation of surgical method.

Nine patients with 10 implants were included in the study. A bone graft from the symphyseal region of the mandible was used to augment the ridge 4 months before implant insertion. All implant sites showed a sufficient amount of bone at the time of implant insertion. One implant was not integrated at the time of abutment connection. Bone resorption after augmentation was assessed by measurements of the width of the alveolar ridge at four different levels. The measurements were performed before and after the bone-grafting procedure, at implant insertion and at abutment connection. The bone resor

The masseter-buccinator periosteal flap prior to vertical bone augmentation in the mandibular region: case report and technical notes.

BACKGROUND: Vertical bone augmentation in the posterior mandible presents significant challenges due to anatomical constraints and frequent deficiencies in soft tissue. Optimizing the soft-tissue phenotype prior to augmentation is critical to ensure stable wound closure and to provide the vascular support necessary for successful graft integration. This article introduces the pedicled masseter-buccinator periosteal flap, a novel technique that uses highly vascularized tissue to improve the quality and quantity of soft-tissue covering while also promoting graft survival. CASE PRESENTATION: A p
