A new approach to Pd-catalyzed C─N bond formation is disclosed based on observations from Nature, where its use of an "on water" phenomenon allows for variations in its pH and content. By employing highly basic conditions generated from addition of a certain amount of KOH (i.e., the "dirt") to the water, aminations take place quickly. This "on dirty water" approach also provides the needed base, further simplifying reactions. The viscosity of the KOH/water (i.e., 30% KOH) presumably prevents dissolution of the organic coupling partners; hence, base-sensitive groups (e.g., esters, nitriles, etc

Here, we report a novel and efficient method for the synthesis of secondary amines by Ni-catalyzed aldehydes and nitro(hetero)arenes. High yields of aromatic, aliphatic, and heterocyclic products were obtained. We report here a highly efficient cobalt-catalyzed hydroaminomethylation of alkynes with aminals towards tertiary allyl amines. The reaction occurs through a strategy of visible light photoredox cobalt dual catalysis. We describe a 43-year-old epoxy floor layer who developed work-related asthma while exposed to an epoxy hardener based on isophorone diamine (IPDA). Challenge exposures to the curing of the epoxy resin system and subsequently to the polyfunctional amine hardener containing IPDA both elicited delayed asthmatic reactions. This report further indicates that exposure to epoxy hardeners containing polyfunctional amines should be considered as a potential cause of occupational asthma. Appropriate work hygiene measures should be implemented to minimize airborne exposure to these volatile compounds.

Eight patients with skin damage due to contact with an amine are described. The material is used in the potash industry under the commercial name of Armine to prevent bosselation. Although it is considered to be a strong base, no deep burns were encountered. The reaction to this material initially resembled a dermatitis; later the wound developed the typical appearance of a burn. In addition to the common conservative treatment, antihistamine drugs were used. When a true allergic reaction was suspected steroids were added to the regimen.

Lumbar CSF concentration of 5-HIAA, MHPG, and HVA were measured in patients with depression, dementia due to normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) and in controls. Moreover, ventricular concentrations of the metabolites were measured in patients with NPH. It was aimed to match patients and controls for age, sex, and body height.
