Applications of digital subtraction angiography in the management of penetrating injuries of the maxillofacial region: A case report.

This report presents a clinical case of trauma due to assault with a knife, and describes the importance of using the correct imaging modality in cases of facial penetrating trauma involving the superficial and deep anatomical planes. Penetrating wounds in the maxillofacial region are rare and poorly reported, but can result in serious complications that are difficult to resolve and may compromise the patient's quality of life, especially when large blood vessels or other vital structures are involved. Thus, it is essential to determine the extent of the affected blood vessels and the proximit

Differentiation between benign and malignant disease of the breast using digital subtraction angiography of the breast.

The authors have investigated digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for the differential diagnosis of breast lesions detected initially by mammography. Eighteen patients scheduled for biopsy first underwent digital subtraction angiography of the breast (DSAB). Criteria for malignancy included the presence of abnormal vessels and a "blush" in the area of the lesion. A total of 17 lesions are currently available for histopathologic correlation. Although this is a small series, the initial results of DSAB suggest its potential utility for differentiating between benign and malignant lesions.

Postembolization CT Digital Subtraction Angiography for Assessing Spinal Tumor Devascularization: Concordance With Catheter Angiography and Association With Surgical Blood Loss.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: The adequacy of preoperative embolization for spinal tumors is commonly assessed using selective catheter angiography, but standardized criteria remain lacking. Postembolization CT digital subtraction angiography (CT-DSA) may provide complementary whole-tumor assessment of residual enhancement. PURPOSE: To evaluate concordance between postembolization CT-DSA and catheter angiography, examine associations between CT-DSA findings and surgical blood loss, and identify factors associated with less favorable CT-DSA findings. DESIGN: Retrospective single-center observational co

Digital Subtraction Angiography or Computed Tomography Angiography in the Preoperative Evaluation of Lower Limb Peripheral Artery Disease - A Comparative Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: For several years, digital subtraction angiography (DSA) was considered the gold standard method for the evaluation of PAD patients. This is an invasive technique and allows a good evaluation of collaterals and the vessel lumen, even in cases with associated calcification. Nevertheless, recent technical development of computed tomography angiography (CTA) has improved its specificity and sensibility, besides the fact that CTA is a fast and non-invasive procedure. OBJECTIVE: To characterize a cohort of lower limb PAD patients and clarify if there are differences among the patient

Unraveling cerebrovascular involvement in EGPA through digital subtraction angiography: case presentation and systematic literature review.

OBJECTIVES: Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) involves systemic inflammation of small to medium vessels, with central nervous system (CNS) involvement being rare. While CT (computed tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) are standard for diagnosing CNS involvement, digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is infrequently used. We present a unique EGPA case with CNS involvement and review EGPA CNS vascular variations. METHODS: We present a case of EGPA with CNS involvement, alongside a systematic review of the literature following PRISMA guidelines, querying three dat

Four-dimensional digital subtraction angiography for exploration of intraosseous arteriovenous fistula in the sphenoid bone.

BACKGROUND: Intraosseous arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is a rare clinical entity that typically presents with symptoms from their effect on surrounding structures. Here, we report a case of intraosseous AVF in the sphenoid bone that presented with bilateral abducens palsy. CASE DESCRIPTION: A previously healthy man presented with tinnitus for 1 month, and initial imaging suspected dural AVF of the cavernous sinus. Four-dimensional digital subtraction angiography (4D-DSA) imaging and a three-dimensional (3D) fused image from the bilateral external carotid arteries revealed that the shunt was in

Application of Digital Subtraction Angiography in Reconstruction of Plantar Forefoot With Reverse Medial Plantar Flap.

The reverse medial plantar flap (RMPF) raised from the nonweight-bearing region of the plantar foot represents a viable option for the soft tissue defect in planter forefoot. The anatomical basis of RMPF is the complex anastomotic branches between medial plantar artery (MPA) and deep plantar arch. Those anastomotic branches have high variation rate and may be damaged by trauma such as electric injury. Therefore, it is very important to know whether those anastomotic branches are present and intact before harvesting RMPF. Five patients with soft tissue defect in planter forefoot were enrolled i

Digital Subtraction Angiography Use During Epidural Steroid Injections Does Not Reliably Distinguish Artery from Vein.

BACKGROUND: Epidural steroid injections (ESIs) are among the most common procedures performed in an interventional pain management practice. It is well known that tragic complications may arise from ESIs, most commonly those performed using a transforaminal approach. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) has been hailed as a fluoroscopic technique that can be used to detect arterial placement of the injection needle, and therefore as a safety measure that can decrease the incidence of catastrophic sequelae of these procedures. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this article was to review existing sc
