INTRODUCTION: Functional dysphonia occurs in the absence of structural or neurologic laryngeal abnormalities with various manifestations including aphonia and inappropriate vocal pitch. Voice therapy is the first-line treatment, and literature on treatment options for functional dysphonia unresponsive to voice therapy is limited.

Sixteen patients with paralytic dysphonia were treated with Teflon injection in the paralyzed vocal fold. Trained voice pathologists rated the pre- and postinjection voices on a 5-point scale for each 11 voice characteristics. An important number of patients are referred to the ENT specialist because of extraoesophageal manifestations of gastroesophageal reflux. This paper presents a first detailed analysis of the Voice Onset Time (VOT) and Constriction Duration (CD) of stops /p t ʈ c k/ and flap /ɽ/ in the Indigenous Australian language Warlpiri as spoken in Lajamanu Community, in Australia's Northern Territory. In 142 patients function and morphology of the larynx were clinically assessed before and after strumectomy. A case is presented of a 36-yr-old parturient who developed a total spinal block after an epidural test dose. In 23 patients with laryngotracheal trauma at the Louisville General Hospital during a ten-year period, 19 survived. One death was directly atributable to the airway injury. The most common postinjury complication was hoarsensess attributable to direct injury to the cords or recurrent nerve paralysis. One patient had further operation for subglottic stenosis. The current study explores whether Mandarin initial and medial voiceless unaspirated and voiceless aspirated stops differ in their tongue positions and post-vocalic voicing during closure.
