Effect of Chronic Rhinitis Treatment in Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of chronic rhinitis treatment on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in children with ADHD. METHODS: Children and adolescents with ADHD were screened for chronic rhinitis symptoms. Participants with positive chronic rhinitis screening underwent the skin prick test and received rhinitis treatment for 3 months. All participants were evaluated using the parent's and teacher's Vanderbilt ADHD rating scales, total nasal symptom score, and Quality of Life Questionnaire (OSA-18) for pediatric obstructive sleep apnea a

School-Based Interventions for Elementary School Students with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder experience significant academic, social, and behavioral impairments in elementary school settings. Although psychopharmacologic treatments can improve symptomatic behaviors, these rarely are sufficient for enhancing school performance. Thus, medication should be supplemented by one or more school interventions, including behavioral strategies, academic interventions, behavioral peer interventions, organizational skills training, and self-regulation strategies. Although all of these school interventions have been found effective, classroom

Altered White-matter Tract Property in Adults with Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Although altered microstructure properties of white-matter tracts have been reported in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), findings from relatively few adult ADHD studies are inconsistent. This study aims to examine microstructural property over the whole brain in adults with ADHD and explore structural connectivities. Sixty-four medication-naïve adults with ADHD and 81 healthy adults received diffusion spectrum imaging. Generalized fractional anisotropy (GFA), an index indicating microstructural property, was calculated stepwise among 76 white-matter tracts. With t

Association of Perinatal and Childhood Ischemic Stroke With Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

IMPORTANCE: Early detection of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) plays a crucial role in reducing negative effects on everyday life, including academic failure and poor social functioning. Children who survive ischemic strokes risk major disabilities, but their risk of ADHD has not been studied in nationwide cohorts. OBJECTIVE: To assess the risk of ADHD in children after pediatric ischemic stroke. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Participants in this Swedish nationwide cohort study included 1320 children diagnosed with ischemic stroke recorded in linked Swedish national regi

Genetic variations influence brain changes in patients with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurological and neurodevelopmental childhood-onset disorder characterized by a persistent pattern of inattentiveness, impulsiveness, restlessness, and hyperactivity. These symptoms may continue in 55-66% of cases from childhood into adulthood. Even though the precise etiology of ADHD is not fully understood, it is considered as a multifactorial and heterogeneous disorder with several contributing factors such as heritability, auxiliary to neurodevelopmental issues, severe brain injuries, neuroinflammation, consanguineous marriages, prematur

Meta-Analysis Study on Treatment of Children's Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

With the development of society and the economy, the prevalence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been increasing. Due to its high comorbidity and high harm, it has received increasing attention. It causes damage to functions in multiple areas, and this damage may continue into adulthood. ADHD is a common developmental disorder characterized by persistent attention deficit and hyperactivity/impulsivity. ADHD often merges with other diseases, such as oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, personality disorder, anxiety disorder, mood disorder, and substance depende

Anomalous Brain Development Is Evident in Preschoolers With Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

OBJECTIVES: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurological disorder with symptom onset early in childhood. Growing evidence suggests anomalous brain development across multiple brain regions is evident in school-aged children; however, few studies have examined whether such differences are notable in the preschool years when symptom onset typically occurs. METHODS: High resolution anatomical (MPRAGE) images and cognitive and behavioral measures were analyzed in a total of 90 medication-naïve preschoolers, ages 4-5 years (52 with ADHD, 38 controls; 64.4% boys). An exploration of sarcasm detection in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

The present research explored the ability of children with ADHD to distinguish between sarcasm and sincerity. Twenty-two children with a clinical diagnosis of ADHD were compared with 22 age and verbal IQ matched typically developing children using the Social Inference-Minimal Test from The Awareness of Social Inference Test (TASIT, McDonald, Flanagan, & Rollins, 2002). This test assesses an individual's ability to interpret naturalistic social interactions containing sincerity, simple sarcasm and paradoxical sarcasm. Children with ADHD demonstrated specific deficits in comprehending paradoxica

Bullying and peer victimisation in adolescent girls with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

Emerging evidence suggests that adolescent girls with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are more socially impaired compared with their peers; however, research has yet to elucidate the nature of this impairment. We investigated overt (e.g., physical, such as hitting or kicking or verbal, such as teasing and taunting) and relational (e.g., social manipulation, such as social exclusion) bullying and victimisation in adolescent girls with and without ADHD. Adolescent girls (mean age = 15.11) with (n = 22) and without (n = 20) ADHD and their primary caregivers completed measures of o

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in patients with premature ejaculation: a pilot study.

PURPOSE: The etiology of both adult-type ADHD and PE is not completely understood, but the studies revealing common etiologic factors for both conditions suggest a high likelihood of coexistence. We aimed to find out the prevalence of ADHD among adult males with lifetime PE. METHODS: The patients with lifetime PE were included in the study. Both patients and controls were evaluated with the 10-item premature ejaculation index of Althof and Rosen for premature ejaculation, Wender Utah rating scale (WURS) and Conner's adult ADHD rating scales (CAARS) for determining the presence of attention-de

Thalamic shape and connectivity abnormalities in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by widespread structural and functional abnormalities in the cortico-striato-thalmo-cortical (CSTC) loops that subserve attention and executive functions. In this study, we analyzed thalamic shape and its white matter connections using structural magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion (DTI) data acquired from children with ADHD (n=19) and controls (n=19). Shape morphology of the thalamus was assessed using shape-based analysis, while connectivity between the thalamus and other brain regions was determined using probabilistic di

Basal ganglia volume and shape in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

OBJECTIVE: Volumetric abnormalities of basal ganglia have been associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), especially in boys. To specify localization of these abnormalities, large deformation diffeomorphic metric mapping (LDDMM) was used to examine the effects of ADHD, sex, and their interaction on basal ganglia shapes. METHOD: The basal ganglia (caudate, putamen, globus pallidus) were manually delineated on magnetic resonance imaging from 66 typically developing children (35 boys) and 47 children (27 boys) with ADHD. LDDMM mappings from 35 typically developing children

Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the diagnosis used to describe children who are inattentive, impulsive, and hyperactive. ADHD is a widespread condition that is of public health concern. In most children with ADHD the cause is unknown, but is thought to be biological and multifactorial. Several previous studies indicated that some physical symptoms reported in ADHD are similar to symptoms observed in essential fatty acid (EFA) deficiency in animals and humans deprived of EFAs. We reported previously that a subgroup of ADHD subjects reporting many symptoms indicative of EFA de
