In a patient, at revisional Christiansen total hip arthroplasty, silver-impregnated bone cement was used as prophylaxis against deep infection. Five years later the patient developed serious neurological deficits, and the prosthesis was loose. Bioconcentration of [14C]benzo[a]pyrene and effects of unlabeled benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) accumulation on the routine oxygen consumption of embryonic grunion (Leuresthes tenuis) were studied. OBJECTIVES: Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1), NF2, and schwannomatosis are characterized by a predisposition to develop multiple neurofibromas and schwannomas. Currently, there is no blood test to estimate tumor burden in patients with these disorders.
