Intrapericardial bronchogenic cyst adherent to the ascending aorta.

Bronchogenic cysts arise from an abnormal budding of the ventral diverticulum of the foregut or the tracheobronchial tree during embryogenesis. Pericardial location of these cysts is very rare. We describe a case of a young asymptomatic woman with an intrapericardial cystic mass compressing the right heart. Because of severe adhesions of the mass to the ascending aorta and to the right coronary artery, these structures were injured during surgical resection requiring the replacement of the ascending aorta and a coronary artery by-pass graft. Only the histopathologic findings provided the final…

Paraesophageal bronchogenic cyst: first case reports in pediatric.

We described for the first time a paraesophageal intra-abdominal bronchogenic cyst, first considered as hepatic tumor, in a young boy. Resection was successfully realized by laparoscopy. Abdominal bronchogenic cyst and differential diagnosis are discussed.

Bronchogenic cyst -cause of refractory wheezing in infancy.

A 11/2-year-old male child with past history of recurrent wheezing presented with a severe and refractory episode following a peanut aspiration. A bronchoscopy was done and the peanut removed. However, as the wheezing persisted a detailed evaluation was done which revealed a bronchogenic cyst. Surgical excision of the cyst was done and the child improved symptomatically. Congenital lesions need to be ruled out in infants and children with persistent and refractory wheezing.

Clinics in diagnostic imaging (86). Ruptured bronchogenic cyst.

An eight-year-old boy presented with a sudden onset of chest pain. He had been diagnosed to have a left spontaneous pneumothorax. Chest radiographs and computed tomography of the chest showed a thin-walled cyst in the left lower lobe. Thoracotomy and a segmentectomy of the apical segment of the lower lobe was performed, confirming the diagnosis of a ruptured bronchogenic cyst. Imaging findings of various pulmonary cystic lesions in children are discussed.

Recurrent bronchogenic cyst 15 years after incomplete excision.

OBJECTIVES: Bronchogenic cysts of the mediastinum are rare congenital anomalies that arise early in gestation from abnormal budding of the developing respiratory system. Recommended treatment is surgical resection and incomplete resection may lead to local recurrence more than 10 years later with or without various symptoms. METHODS: We reported a case and reviewed literatures. RESULTS: A case of a recurrent bronchogenic cyst in a 42-year-old man 15 years after first resection is presented. The patient had a persistent high fever resistant to antibiotic therapy. Magnetic resonance imaging an…

Recurrent bronchogenic cyst causing recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy.

A case of a 50-year-old male who developed left recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy due to a bronchogenic cyst is presented. The bronchogenic cyst recurred following incomplete excision and multiple attempts at percutaneous aspiration. Recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy is an unusual complication of bronchogenic cysts. This case highlights the need for complete excision of these cysts and the lack of efficacy of cyst aspiration.

Retroperitoneal multilocular bronchogenic cyst adjacent to adrenal gland.

Bronchogenic cysts are generally found in the mediastinum, particularly posterior to the carina, but they rarely occur in such unusual sites as the skin, subcutaneous tissue, pericardium, and even the retroperitoneum. A 30-year-old Korean man underwent surgery to remove a cystic adrenal mass incidentally discovered during routine physical checkup. At surgery, it proved to be a multilocular cyst located in the retroperitoneum adjacent to the left adrenal gland. Microscopically, the cyst was lined by respiratory epithelium over connective tissue with submucous glands, cartilage and smooth muscle…

Recurrent respiratory obstruction from a mediastinal bronchogenic cyst.

A large mediastinal bronchogenic cyst presented acutely with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and severe airflow obstruction. The patient had experienced identical symptoms on two other occasions over the previous 24 years. These had been previously misdiagnosed as due to a mediastinal lymphoma. Percutaneous extrapleural aspiration successfully decompressed the cyst with substantial improvement in lung function. Recurrent swelling of the cyst occurred that could not be relieved surgically. After repeat aspiration percutaneous instillation of bleomycin and alcohol has been used to prevent further…

Retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst presenting as an adrenal mass.

Subdiaphragmatic bronchogenic cysts are rare, and those located retroperitoneally are exceptional. A review of the English-language literature revealed only three reported cases. We describe an additional case of a retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst that presented uniquely as a symptomatic adrenal mass and discuss the cases of subdiaphragmatic bronchogenic cysts reported in the English-language literature.

A Rare Case of an Abdominal Pedunculated Bronchogenic Cyst.

Bronchogenic cysts (BC) are rare congenital malformations that result from abnormal budding of the primitive foregut. Most of these cysts are located in the mediastinum or the lungs. Rarely, abdominal BCs result from embryonic budding migrating below the diaphragm prior to the fusion of the pleuroperitoneal membranes. We present a case of a 34-year-old male patient undergoing evaluation for bronchopneumopathy. Preoperative imaging revealed a well-circumscribed cystic lesion adjacent to the colon, which failed to provide a definitive diagnosis due to its atypical location and nonspecific radiol…

Atypical Presentation of Bronchogenic Cyst in the Retroperitoneal Space.

Bronchogenic cysts, benign congenital malformations resulting from abnormal tracheobronchial tree budding, primarily manifest in the mediastinum, with retroperitoneal occurrence being exceedingly rare. Typically incidental findings on imaging, and their diagnosis pose challenges, particularly when malignancy is suspected. We present a case involving a 55-year-old woman diagnosed with chronic back pain. Physical examination revealed a painful mass in the left renal region. Subsequent MRI identified a smooth mass in the left adrenal gland without infiltration of surrounding structures. Laparosco…

Resection of a Giant Bronchogenic Cyst in the Left Atrium.

A bronchogenic cyst in the left atrium is rare. We report the case of a 17-year-old male patient who was admitted to the emergency department because of severe chest pain and dyspnea. He was diagnosed using echocardiography and computed tomography, which revealed a huge cardiac tumour in the dome of the left atrium. He was surgically treated with tumour enucleation. The resultant atrial dome defect was reconstructed with a bovine pericardial patch. Pathologic investigation revealed that the tumour was a bronchogenic benign cyst.

A bronchogenic cyst masquerading as asthma: A case report.

Wheezing in infants and under-five children may present a diagnostic problem as there are various aetiologies for this symptom. Diagnosis of asthma is often made as it is one of the causes of wheezing in children. It is however important to have taken a complete history, including allergy and appropriate diagnostic investigations. If the child's symptoms do not improve despite appropriate therapy, a different diagnosis must be pursued. We report the case of a child who presented to us with wheezing and who did not respond to therapy.

A bronchogenic cyst, presenting as a retroperitoneal cystic mass.

Bronchogenic cysts are mostly benign, congenital abnormalities originating from the remnants of the primitive foregut. A retroperitoneal location is rare. Due to the mostly asymptomatic behavior and the historical confusion regarding histology, an exact prevalence is not known. We present here a case report of a retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst. A literature review was performed for cases of retroperitoneal bronchogenic cysts written in English. Anatomopathological criteria for inclusion were pseudo stratified, ciliated, columnar epithelium together with the presence of at least one of the fo…
