Choroidal Changes in Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy Studied by Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography.

Background cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) involves amyloid-β deposition in cerebral vessels. Its effects on the ocular circulation remain unclear. Using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA), this study quantitatively characterized choroidal parameters in CAA patients and their correlation with MRI neuroimaging markers. Method CAA patients and matched controls were enrolled. We used SS-OCTA to obtain choroidal parameters including thickness, choriocapillaris flow density, choroidal vascular volume (CVV), and choroidal vascular index (CVI). The correlations between

Transulnar Arterial Access for Intra-Operative Cerebral Angiography during Prone Cerebrovascular Surgery.

We reviewed our experience using transulnar access (TUA) to obtain intraoperative cerebral angiography during prone surgery for vascular pathology, where conventional transfemoral and transradial access can be difficult. Ten consecutive patients treated between April 2020 and August 2025 were included. Ulnar artery access was obtained in the supine position before the patient was turned prone for surgery, and angiography was performed after the procedure without repositioning. Eight patients had arteriovenous malformations and 2 had dural arteriovenous fistulas. In all cases, intraoperative an…

Intraoperative visualization of cerebral aneurysms using navigated 3D-ultrasound power-Doppler angiography.

BACKGROUND: The questions of whether the spatial resolution of navigated 3D-ultrasound (3D-US) power-Doppler angiography imaging rendered by existing 3D-US systems is sufficient for the intraoperative visualization of cerebral aneurysms, and in what percentage of cases, are largely unanswered. A study on this topic is lacking in the literature. METHODS: From 2015 to 2022, we performed 86 surgeries on 83 aneurysm patients. Navigated 3D-US was used at the discretion of the operating neurosurgeons when available (i.e., not being used during parallel tumor surgeries). Twenty-five aneurysms (15 ru

Risk factors for vasovagal reaction associated with cerebral angiography via femoral catheterisation.

Objective To analyse the related risk factors for vasovagal reaction associated with cerebral angiography via femoral catheterisation and discuss treatment measures and prevention and control methods. Methods The data of 3107 patients on whom cerebral angiography was performed in two high-volume interventional neuroradiology centres within 8 years were retrospectively analysed. Patients were divided into the vasovagal reaction and non-vasovagal reaction groups according to whether vasovagal reaction developed. The two groups' clinical data were analysed using univariate and multivariate logist…

Dual-Channel Endoscopic Indocyanine Green Fluorescence Angiography for Clipping of Cerebral Aneurysms.

OBJECTIVE: Neuroendoscopy is useful for assessing status of perforators, parent arteries, and aneurysms beyond the straight line of microscopic view during aneurysm clipping. We aimed to evaluate the clinical usefulness of our endoscopic indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) system, which can simultaneously display visible light and indocyanine green fluorescent images. METHODS: Surgical clipping of 16 unruptured aneurysms in 10 patients was performed via the keyhole approach. Using our endoscopic ICGA and commercial microscopic ICGA systems, we prospectively compared 10 targeted cerebral aneu

Automatic anatomical labeling method of cerebral arteries in MR-angiography data set.

To improve the accuracy and robustness of 2D/3D registration of digital subtraction angiography images and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) data, we have developed an automatic method for anatomical labeling of the cerebral arteries in MRA data. The anatomical labeling method is a location-based method which segments an artery tree to branches and classifies the branches into labeled segments, i.e., internal carotid arteries (ICA), basilar artery (BA), middle cerebral arteries (MCA), A1 segments of the anterior cerebral artery (ACA(A1)), other segments of the anterior cerebral artery (ACA)

Site-specific cancer incidence and mortality after cerebral angiography with radioactive thorotrast.

Few opportunities exist to evaluate the carcinogenic effects of long-term internal exposure to alpha-particle-emitting radionuclides. Patients injected with Thorotrast (thorium-232) during radiographic procedures, beginning in the 1930s, provide one such valuable opportunity. We evaluated site-specific cancer incidence and mortality among an international cohort of 3,042 patients injected during cerebral angiography with either Thorotrast (n = 1,650) or a nonradioactive agent (n = 1,392) and who survived 2 or more years. Standardized incidence ratios (SIR) for Thorotrast and comparison patient…

ECG changes during cerebral angiography; a comparison of low osmolality contrast media.

334 electrocardiographic recordings obtained from 109 patient who underwent cerebral angiography with low osmolality contrast media (CM) were analysed. CM used in this study included meglumine sodium ioxaglate, iopamidol, and iohexol. A tachycardial effect greater than 10% was seen in 8.3% of recordings, while a bradycardial effect greater than 10% was seen in 11.1%. Assessment was based on the type of CM used, age of the patients, usage of atropine sulfate as premedication, and the vessel injected. Patients who were under 19 years of age, and unpremedicated had a significantly higher incidenc…

The study of fetal-type posterior cerebral circulation on multislice CT angiography and its influence on cerebral ischemic strokes.

PURPOSE: The purpose was to evaluate if patients with partial and full fetal-type posterior cerebral artery (PCA) could be more prone to lead to ischemic strokes on multislice computed tomographic angiography (MSCTA). METHODS: A total of 202 patients who had undergone MSCTA examinations were divided into three groups: patients with full fetal-type posterior (FTP), patients with partial FTP, and patients without FTP. The odds ratio of having ischemic strokes was calculated. RESULTS: The odds of having ischemic strokes in patients with full and partial FTP were 1.448 and 3.027, while P values

Cerebral ischemic disorders and cerebral oxygen balance during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery: preoperative evaluation using magnetic resonance imaging and angiography.

We compared the preoperative prevalence of small cerebral infarctions and carotid stenosis to jugular venous oxygen saturation (Sjvo2) during coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Sjvo2 served as an indicator of whether cerebral oxygen supply meets demand in patients on cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The study population consisted of 121 patients who were either older than 65 yr or had a history of cerebrovascular disease. The patients underwent preoperative cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and cervical magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) to detect small cerebral infarctions and car

Cerebral arteries segmentation based on projection domain in single exposure computed tomographic angiography.

BACKGROUND: Cerebrovascular diseases are major causes of death and disability worldwide, highlighting the critical importance of early diagnosis and accurate acquisition of vascular information. However, conventional imaging techniques using direct subtraction computed tomography (CT) and dual energy CT have limitations, including invasiveness, radiation exposure, and artifacts caused by metal and bone. PURPOSE: This study investigated the feasibility of cerebral artery segmentation in single-exposure CT angiography (CTA) using a projection-domain framework derived from patient-based CTA data

Early ambulation protocol after diagnostic transfemoral cerebral angiography: an evidence-based practice project.

BACKGROUND: No uniform consensus has been achieved regarding the ambulation protocol after transfemoral cerebral angiography (TFA). Until now, in most hospitals patients are prescribed 8-12 h strict immobilization along with bed rest in the supine position after TFA in China, which causes great discomfort to patients. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of an evidence-based early ambulation protocol on the prevention of vascular complications and general discomfort in patients following transfemoral cerebral angiography (TFA). METHODS: A prospective quasi-experimental study was conducted on 21…

CT chest-cerebral angiography for basilar artery occlusion caused by pulmonary arteriovenous malformation.

Early diagnosis of basilar artery occlusion (BAO) based only on clinical findings is challenging. We present a fully recovered case of BAO caused by pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (PAVM) that was diagnosed early using a protocol for CT angiography (CTA) and promptly treated with endovascular therapy (EVT). A woman in her 50s complained of vertigo with normal level of consciousness (LOC). On arrival, her LOC decreased to a Grass Coma Scale score of 12, and we performed a CT chest-cerebral angiography protocol. Head CTA showed BAO, and an intravenous tissue plasminogen activator was admini…
