Carcinoma of the oesophagus occurs in a good number of patients in any oncology department. Management is either by surgery or radiotherapy. In view of the proximity of the oesophagus to the critical organs in the thorax, effective external beam radiotherapy becomes difficult. We have used whole-cell patch clamp techniques to record from tall hair cells isolated from the apical half of the alligator cochlea. We investigate the carrier dynamics of strongly confined cesium lead iodide (CsPbI3) nanowires and compare them with weakly confined quantum dots (QDs) to understand how dimensionality affects recombination processes. Using time-resolved photoluminescence and ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy, we find that nanowires exhibit a 5× faster recombination rate and more rapid carrier cooling than QDs. This article presents a comprehensive study on the synthesis and structural and thermal conductivity properties of cesium-inserted chromium tellurides of formula CsxCr5Te8.
