The contributions of the Culture and Diagnosis Task Force for DSM-IV and the World Mental Health Report are reviewed and contrasted. Exploring Cultural Influences in the Associations Between Emotion Regulation and Mental Health: A Systematic Review Comparing East Asian and Western Cultural Contexts.

Culture shapes how individuals perceive, experience and regulate emotions. Emotion regulation literature, which informs current understandings of emotional disorders, is largely guided by Western frameworks. The literature search was conducted across five databases in June 2024; the final review included 54 articles. First, findings revealed that East Asian individuals tended to engage more frequently

Cross-cultural Adaptation and Psychometric Validation of a Structured Interview for Psychiatric Assessment.

Psychiatric disorders are a significant cause of long-term disability and mortality. Although treatment is available, diagnostic accuracy is critical to provide adequate evidence-based treatment and to develop novel therapies. To inform the diagnostic process during clinical interviews, the use of validated assessment measures, including self-report questionnaires and structured interviews, is highly recommended. However, such instruments must have excellent psychometric properties, particularly regarding reliability and validity, to ensure accurate and interpretable data for each individual.

Cross-Cultural Brain Activity Differences Between True and Sham Acupuncture for Xerostomia During Head and Neck Cancer Radiotherapy.

BACKGROUND: A prior phase III, multicenter (United States and China), clinical trial found true acupuncture (TA) resulted in lower xerostomia scores 12 months after radiotherapy than that of a standard care control group. This small pilot study examined brain function changes comparing TA to sham acupuncture (SA) in US and Fudan patients undergoing head and neck radiotherapy. METHODS: To determine cerebral activity during TA versus SA acupuncture, patients underwent electroencephalogram evaluation (EEG) immediately prior, during and after both conditions. Acupuncture occurred during weeks 3 t
