INTRODUCTION: Emphysematous cystitis is a rare urinary tract infection characterized by gas in the bladder wall and lumen.
CASE REPORT: We report a 92-year-old women admitted with confusion and abdominal pain without fever. Her past medical history included diabetes, urinary incontinence, high blood pressure and mild cognitive impairment. A computed tomography scan (CT scan) revealed emphysematous cystitis. The patient completely recovered within ten days. The main characteristics and the treatment of this uncommon disorder are presented.

BACKGROUND: Acute uncomplicated cystitis in women is one of the most frequently diagnosed bacterial infections.
METHODS: In a pilot, open, noncomparative prospective study, 29 nonpregnant, sexually active women with acute uncomplicated cystitis were enrolled. The mean age was 28.9 ± 4.3, range 22-36 years. All patients received unique therapy: the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) ketoprofen, 100 mg once a day for 5 days, and Canephron, 2 dragees three times a day for 1 month.

Emphysematous cystitis (EC) is the presence of intramural gas, with or without luminal gas, within the bladder as a result of a primary infection of the lower urinary tract with a gas-producing organism. OBJECTIVES: To analyze the prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in recreational ketamine users and evaluate its relationship with the consumption pattern.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Evaluation of 13 ketamine users. The presence of LUTS, gross hematuria and lumbar spine pain was analyzed. The ketamine usage pattern was recorded: initiation, administration route, dose in the last month and frequency of usage.
