[Immunophenotype of dendritic cells of the human conjunctiva].

PURPOSE: To examine dendritic cells from human conjunctiva and to characterize their surface markers immunologically. METHODS: Conjunctival cells were isolated by conjunctival impression cytology from 150 patients: controls (65 patients, 126 eyes) or with various chronic inflammatory conditions (85 patients, 160 eyes); and by conjunctival biopsies from 25 patients: controls (10 patients) or treated topically for primary open angle glaucoma (15 patients). Immunostaining was performed using antibodies to investigate expression of 21 different membrane markers relevant to immunologic functions o

[Dendritic resident cells and their immunohistologic determination].

Resident dendritic cells exist in various tissues. They belong to RES according to determining marks and their transitions. The main marks represent phagocytosis, fixed and mobile scavenging, endothelial and stroma-parenchyma barrier function and collagens production. Suppression of some extreme marks stimulates prevalence of remaining marks. An interesting topic concerns immune engaged dendritic cells. Their main mark is inability of transporting antigens and of presenting them to lymphatic tissue so that they start an immune reaction. Differences among dendritic cells can be detected by immu

[Latticed or dendritic lines on the periphery of the retina].

Latticed or dendritic lines (true white lines) on the periphery of the retina. Vitreo-retinal adherences between the ora and equator correspond to former embryonal blood vessels to the vitreous (or retinal vessels) attaching to the retina. Between attachments of vitreous consolidations coming from in front and behind as a congenital anomaly of the retina, the latter is either loosened or replaced by connective tissue, or there is a defect, wedge-shaped from within outwards (colobomatous). These are obviously very frequently comgenital. The vitreous between and above the vitreous-retinal attach

Dendritic spine loss deep in the neocortex and dendrite distortion with diffusion disturbances occur early in experimental pneumococcal meningitis.

INTRODUCTION: Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) meningitis is a serious disease with substantial lethality and long-term disability in survivors. Loss of synaptic staining in the superficial layers of the neocortex in rodent models and in humans, and pneumolysin (a major pneumococcal toxin)-dependent dendritic spine collapse in brain slices have been described. It remains unclear how deep in the neocortex more discrete changes are present, how soon after disease onset these changes occur, and whether other properties of dendrites are also affected. METHODS: Using a mouse model of pneumo…

Dendritic fibrous nanosilica-supported dendritic IL/Ru(ii) as photocatalysts for the dicarbofunctionalization of styrenes with carbon dioxide and amines.

The effectual utilization of heterogeneous catalysts from nano sources through chemical moderation for the α-aminomethylcarboxylation of alkenes with carbon dioxide and amines is an attractive area to study. Dendritic fibrous nanosilica (DFNS) is a cost-effective, resistant, plenteous, and reproducible source with dandelion-like fibrous anatomy. The present paper is a report on an easy method to provide a family of new DFNS-supported dendritic imidazolium IL/Ru(ii) heterogeneous catalysts DFNS/IL/Ru (1-3) with high ionic density from DFNS. A positive dendritic effect was perceived in the chemi

A Kalirin missense mutation enhances dendritic RhoA signaling and leads to regression of cortical dendritic arbors across development.

Normally, dendritic size is established prior to adolescence and then remains relatively constant into adulthood due to a homeostatic balanc … L-PT, that was identified in a schizophrenia cohort, confers enhanced RhoA activitation in neuronal dendrites compared to wild-type KAL. In mice containing this missense mutation at the endogenous locus, there is an adolescent-onset reduction in dendritic length and complexity of layer 3 pyramidal neurons in the primary auditory cortex. Spine density per un …

Effects of inactivated porcine epidemic diarrhea virus on porcine monocyte-derived dendritic cells and intestinal dendritic cells.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) is a serious infection in neonatal piglets. As the causative agent of PED, porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) results in acute diarrhea and dehydration with high mortality rates in swine. Dendritic cells (DCs) are highly effective antigen-presenting cells to uptake and present viral antigens to T cells, which then initiate a distinct immune response. In this study, our results show that the expression of Mo-DCs surface markers such as SWC3a(+)CD1a(+), SWC3a(+)CD80/86(+) and SWC3a(+)SLA-II-DR(+) is increased after incubation with UV-PEDV for 24h. Mo-DCs incub

Role of Dendritic Cell-Specific ICAM-3-Grabbing Nonintegrin on Dendritic Cells in the Recognition of Hepatitis B Virus.

Dendritic cell-specific ICAM-3-grabbing nonintegrin (DC-SIGN) is an essential process for virus infection, such as HIV and hepatitis C, and plays a role in immune escape. However, the role of DC-SIGN in hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is still unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of DC-SIGN in mediating the maturation and activation of dendritic cells (DCs) when infected by HBV. Highly mannosylated HBV particles were obtained by treating HBV-producing HepG2.2.15 cells with the a-mannosidase I-inhibitor kifunensine. Highly mannosylated HBV or wild type HBV was added to i

Podoplanin (d2-40): a new immunohistochemical marker for reactive follicular dendritic cells and follicular dendritic cell sarcomas.

The diagnosis of follicular dendritic cell (FDC) sarcoma can be challenging because of its morphologic overlaps with many other spindle cell neoplasms and, therefore, new phenotypic markers will be helpful in its differential diagnosis. Podoplanin is a mucin-type transmembrane glycoprotein that has recently been detected in reactive FDCs. In this study, we investigated the expression patterns of podoplanin using a new mouse monoclonal antibody D2-40, and compared them with CD21, a well-established FDC marker, in a comprehensive panel of cases. The panel included 4 FDC sarcomas, 38 spindle cell

Interwoven dendritic processes of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma demonstrated on ultrafast papanicolaou-stained smears: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Follicular dendritic cell (FDC) tumor is a rare tumor derived from accessory cells in the lymphoid follicles. FDC tumors are typically diagnosed on histology based on immunoreactivity to at least 1 of the FDC markers (CD21, CD23 or CD35) or based on the characteristic ultrastructural feature of long, interwoven, cytoplasmic, dendritic processes connected by desmosomes. CASE: We observed novel cytologic features of FDC sarcoma in a liver fine needle aspirate of a 46-year-old man status post surgery and chemotherapy for FDC sarcoma, originating in the gastrointestinal tract with met

Dendritic spine pathology and deficits in experience-dependent dendritic plasticity in R6/1 Huntington's disease transgenic mice.

Huntington's disease (HD) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease caused by a CAG repeat expansion coding for an expanded polyglutamine tract i … rons. HD also causes a specific reduction in the proportion of bifurcated dendritic spines on basal dendrites of cortical pyramidal neurons. No differences in soma size, recurving distal dendrites, or dendritic branching were observed. Although home-cage environmental enrichment from 1 to 8 months of age increases spine density in wild-type mice, it has no …

Persistence of somatic and dendritic growth associated processes and induction of dendritic sprouting in motoneurones after neonatal axotomy in the rat.

The effect of neonatal axotomy on the maturation of motoneurone somadendritic morphology was studied in identified motoneurones innervating the ankle dorsiflexor muscles tibialis anterior (TA) and extensor digitorum longus (EDL) of the rat by intracellular injection of Lucifer Yellow and confocal microscopy. At birth, the entire somatodendritic surface is covered with fine filopodial growth-associated processes. These are eliminated from the soma and proximal dendrites during the first postnatal week as part of a somatofugal process of dendritic maturation. Following neonatal axotomy, the post…

Mitochondrial Structure and Polarity in Dendrites and the Axon Initial Segment Are Regulated by Homeostatic Plasticity and Dysregulated in Fragile X Syndrome.

Mitochondrial dysfunction has long been overlooked in neurodevelopmental disorders, but recent studies have provided new links to genetic fo … or how activity deprivation triggering homeostatic plasticity affects mitochondria in axons and/or dendrites and whether impairments occur in neurodevelopmental disorders. Here, we test the hypothesis that mitochondria are structurally and functionally modified in a compartment-specific manner during homeostatic plasticity using a model of activity depriva …

Axon terminals from the nucleus isthmi pars parvocellularis control the ascending retinotectofugal output through direct synaptic contact with tectal ganglion cell dendrites.

The optic tectum in birds and its homologue the superior colliculus in mammals both send major bilateral, nontopographic projections to the … al elements that could mediate this tectofugal control, including the retinal terminals and the TGC dendrites themselves. Whether the Ipc axons make synaptic contact with these or other tectal neural elements remains undetermined. We double labeled Ipc axons and their presumptive postsynaptic targets in the tectum of chickens (Gallus gallus) with neural tra …

Intracellular correlates of acquisition and long-term memory of classical conditioning in Purkinje cell dendrites in slices of rabbit cerebellar lobule HVI.

Intradendritic recordings in Purkinje cells from a defined area in parasaggital slices of cerebellar lobule HVI, obtained after rabbits were given either paired (classical conditioning) or explicitly unpaired (control) presentations of tone and periorbital electrical stimulation, were used to assess the nature and duration of conditioning-specific changes in Purkinje cell dendritic membrane excitability. We found a strong relationship between the level of conditioning and Purkinje cell dendritic membrane excitability after initial acquisition of the conditioned response. Moreover, conditioning

KIF5B plays important roles in dendritic spine plasticity and dendritic localization of PSD95 and FMRP in the mouse cortex in vivo.

Kinesin 1 (KIF5) is one major type of motor protein in neurons, but its members' function in the intact brain remains less studied. Using in vivo two-photon imaging, we find that conditional knockout of Kif5b (KIF5B cKO) in CaMKIIα-Cre-expressing neurons shows heightened turnover and lower stability of dendritic spines in layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons with reduced spine postsynaptic density protein 95 acquisition in the mouse cortex. Furthermore, the RNA-binding protein fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP) is translocated to the proximity of newly formed spines several hours before the sp

Loss of the Extracellular Matrix Protein DIG-1 Causes Glial Fragmentation, Dendrite Breakage, and Dendrite Extension Defects.

The extracellular matrix (ECM) guides and constrains the shape of the nervous system. In C. elegans, DIG-1 is a giant ECM component that is required for fasciculation of sensory dendrites during development and for maintenance of axon positions throughout life. We identified four novel alleles of dig-1 in three independent screens for mutants affecting disparate aspects of neuronal and glial morphogenesis. First, we find that disruption of DIG-1 causes fragmentation of the amphid sheath glial cell in larvae and young adults. Second, it causes severing of the BAG sensory dendrite from its termi…
