Dextran 40 (Rheomacrodex) or Polygeline (Haemaccel) as an epidural patch for post dural puncture headache: a neurotoxicity study in a rat model of Dextran 40 and Polygeline injected intrathecally.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Although an epidural autologous blood patch is considered the most effective treatment for post dural puncture headache, which sometimes occurs following spinal or inadvertent spinal anaesthesia, there remains a need for alternative materials for epidural patches. We investigated the potential neurotoxicity of Dextran 40 (Rheomacrodex) and Polygeline (Haemaccel) used for this purpose in a rat model. METHODS: Repeated boluses of 10% Dextran 40, 3.5% Polygeline or 0.9% saline were injected intrathecally over a period of 1 month in three groups of rats. RESULTS: No beh

Encapsulation of the novel mPGES-1 inhibitor TG554 in acetalated dextran nanoparticles.

Chronic inflammatory conditions remain a major therapeutic challenge, driving the demand for more selective and well-tolerated treatment options. The 2-amino-1,3,4-oxadiazole-based TG554, a novel and highly potent inhibitor of microsomal prostaglandin E2 synthase-1 (mPGES-1), offers a promising route to more precisely modulate inflammation. However, its lipophilicity necessitates an advanced drug delivery approach. To overcome its solubility-related limitations, a biodegradable acetalated dextran (AcDex) nanoparticle system was developed using a robust batch nanoprecipitation protocol performe

Synthesis and Validation of Dextran-Based Hydrophilic Magnetic Nanomaterials for Glycopeptide Enrichment.

Glycopeptide enrichment is an essential prerequisite in mass spectrometry (MS)-based protein glycosylation studies, due to the low abundance of glycosylated peptides and the high complexity of biological samples, which contain substantial interference from non-glycosylated metabolites. Current enrichment strategies commonly exploit the polar interactions between glycans and hydrophilic solid-phase materials. Building on existing magnetic-core particles, we developed a series of novel magnetic materials with surfaces functionalized with dextran and amide groups. The magnetic core, composed of p

Quinoa protein-dextran conjugates as functional stabilizers for curcumin-loaded Nanoemulsions.

This study employed high-pressure microfluidization (HPM) to facilitate the Maillard reaction between quinoa protein (QP) and dextran (DX), systematically examining the effects of various pressures on the conjugate's physicochemical properties. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed the formation of QP-DX conjugates, characterized by a new peak at 1149 cm-1 (covalent CN bond). Secondary and tertiary structure analyses revealed that HPM-assisted Maillard reaction partially unfolded QP molecules, enhancing conformational flexibility and interfacial properties. The QP-DX conjugate fabr

Impact of carboxymethyl dextran-asparaginase in NALM-6 cell apoptosis and autophagy.

BACKGROUND: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a malignant disorder in both humans and animals. L-asparaginase (L-ASNase) has limitations as a chemotherapy agent due to adverse effects and low serum stability. In a previous study, L-ASNase was chemically modified with carboxymethyl dextran to enhance its properties. AIMS: This study aimed to validate the potential of these modifications using the NALM-6 cell line. METHODS: NALM-6 cells were cultured and treated with various concentrations, including 0 IU/ml as negative control, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 IU/ml of modified L-ASNase and L-ASNase. T

Rheology and tribology of dextran/ polyethylene oxide-based water-in-water emulsions.

This study investigated the microstructural, rheological and tribological properties of model W/W emulsions composed of dextran (D) and poly(ethylene oxide) (P) at a fundamental level. Rheological analysis revealed that increasing the P concentration, [P], resulted in increased viscosity (η), whilst increasing the D concentration, [D], intensified shear-thinning behaviour, likely due to changes in the size of D-based droplets. Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) demonstrated a significant increase in the average droplet size with higher [D] or [P]. A striking tribological result was that

Dextran-Assisted Biomimetic Fabrication of CdSe:Eu QDs With Enhanced Biocompatibility and Stability.

A dextran templated biomimetic synthetic approach was applied for the preparation of Cadmium Selinium:Europium Quantum Dots (CdSe:Eu QDs). The present work examines synthetic variables including the effect of increasing Europium concentration during QDs' synthesis and the use of different coating agents (citrate versus APTES) to improve the QDs' colloidal stability and ameliorate their cytotoxic behavior. All samples were subjected to structural and morphological characterizations via Fourier Transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, UV-Visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometry, Transmission Electron

Curcumin Attenuates Dextran Sodium Sulfate Induced Colitis in Obese Mice.

SCOPE: Curcumin (Cur), with diverse pharmacological properties, shows anti-obesity, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory effects. Its role in ulcerative colitis complicated by obesity remains unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS: Here, colitis is induced in obese mice using dextran sulfate sodium (DSS), followed by administration of Cur at a dosage of 100 mg kg-1 for 14 days. Cur effectively alleviates DSS-induced colitis in obese mice, accompanied by an increase in body weight and survival rate, reduction in disease activity index, elongation of the colon, decrease in colonic weight, and improvem
