A new composite electrode (G-PSE) was developed from graphite powder and expanded polystyrene (EPS, Styrofoam) by simply dissolving the foam in chloroform, incorporating the graphite particles under mixing and volatilizing the solvent at 80 °C. The resulting rigid black composite can be softened with acetone and so it can easily be molded to any shape, e.g., into a PTFE tube with an electric contact, to build the electrode. Micrurus snakes, commonly known as coral snakes, are responsible for 0.4% of the snakebites envenomings in Brazil. In this report, we describe a case of envenoming by Micrurus averyi, the black-headed coral snake, recorded in the western Brazilian Amazon. In case-control studies of adverse drug effects there is rarely much evidence to support the assumption that the hazard function among users is constant during therapy. Nonetheless, this assumption is often implicitly made. We will use both clinical reasoning and a simple model to show how non-constancy of the hazard function affects odds ratio interpretation. Myiasis is a parasitic disease caused by developing maggots of fly species, which can infect humans. Patients with special needs, especially those with severe neuropsychomotor limitations, may have oral manifestations of this disease. Here, we present a clinical case in which a disabled person was affected by oral myiasis caused by Cochliomyia hominivorax. Chronic disseminated candidiasis (CDC) is a severe complication of a disseminated yeast infection mainly seen after prolonged chemotherapy-induced neutropaenia in the context of haematological malignancy. We present a case of CDC in a patient with metamizole-induced neutropaenia. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case described in this context. Furthermore, we highlight the role of steroids in the management of this disease.
