BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to explore long-term orthopedic outcomes in patients with epispadias and bladder exstrophy (BE).
METHODS: Sixty-three adult patients with epispadias or BE were mailed the Modified Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire, of which 33 (52%) responded. METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of our surgical records from 1996 to 2008. Group 1 included 12 patients who had undergone complete penile disassembly as a part of complete primary repair of bladder exstrophy, and group 2 included 9 patients with isolated epispadias.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate a modified Mitchell's technique for epispadias repair.
METHODS: Three patients with epispadias were undergoing the treatment. It was performed to form a penile pedicled flap or scrotal mediastinum flap for the repair of the urethra and the urine was drained through a perined "U" shaped stent.
RESULTS: All of the patients were successfully treated in one-stage with a good appearance and a matching opening of the urethra.
CONCLUSION: The above mentioned technique could be a good method for epispadias repair.

PURPOSE: We evaluated the Mitchell complete penile disassembly technique for epispadias repair.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 42 males 1 month to 22 years old presented for repair of epispadias between 1998 and 2002. Cases were divided into 2 groups. Group 1 included 29 cases of complete epispadias as a component of bladder exstrophy, 8 with previous continent urinary diversion. Group 2 included 13 cases of epispadias alone (10 primary and 3 secondary). Of the 29 patients in group 1, 21 underwent complete penile disassembly as part of 1-stage primary closure of bladder exstrophy.

PURPOSE: Children with bladder exstrophy in whom initial closure fails are less likely to achieve adequate bladder capacity for later bladder neck reconstruction and continence. A modified technique of ureteroneocystostomy with bladder neck plasty was used in 36 of 75 patients undergoing staged repair of bladder exstrophy or epispadias between 1986 and 1992.
