Commentary: Methodological considerations in the interpretation of evidence on cannabis-based medicines for chronic neuropathic pain.

Recent systematic reviews, including a Cochrane review, have concluded that the certainty of evidence supporting the use of cannabis-based medicines for chronic neuropathic pain remains low. While this overall conclusion is reasonable, its interpretation warrants careful scrutiny. In this commentary, key methodological and interpretative aspects relevant to the appraisal of this evidence base are examined, with particular attention to the application of the GRADE framework, clinical heterogeneity, outcome selection, and indirectness. It is proposed that inconsistent or insufficiently transpare

Signals of Adverse Reactions to Herbal Medicines: Evidence and Document Analysis Based on a Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: To date, signals of adverse reactions to herbal medicines have not been systematically reviewed, limiting pharmacovigilance of herbal medicines because of a lack of data. OBJECTIVES: We sought to analyse the available evidence on signals involving herbal medicines and to determine to what extent they had been documented at the European Union (EU) level and in the USA. METHODS: We used the results of a published scoping review of interventional and non-interventional studies that reported signals of adverse reactions to drugs. We assigned Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical classifica

The clinical benefits of Chinese patent medicines against COVID-19 based on current evidence.

The outbreak of emerging infectious pneumonia caused by 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) has posed an enormous threat to public health, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have made vast contribution to the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) among Chinese population. As an indispensable part of TCM, Chinese patent medicines (CPMs) are highly valued and critically acclaimed in their campaign to contain and tackle the epidemic, they can achieve considerable effects for both suspected cases under medical observation period, and confirmed individuals

Skin grafting for the treatment of chronic leg ulcers - a systematic review in evidence-based medicine.

Skin grafting is one of the most common surgical procedures in the area of non-healing wounds by which skin or a skin substitute is placed over a wound to replace and regenerate the damaged skin. Chronic leg ulcers are an important problem and a major source of expense for Western countries and for which many different forms of treatment have been used. Skin grafting is a method of treatment that decreases the area of chronic leg ulcers or heals them completely, thus improving a patient's quality of life. Skin grafting is an old technique, rediscovered during the first and second world wars as

Consumer-oriented interventions for evidence-based prescribing and medicines use: an overview of systematic reviews.

BACKGROUND: Numerous systematic reviews exist on interventions to improve consumers' medicines use, but this research is distributed across diseases, populations and settings. The scope and focus of reviews on consumers' medicines use also varies widely. Such differences create challenges for decision makers seeking review-level evidence to inform decisions about medicines use. OBJECTIVES: To synthesise the evidence from systematic reviews on the effects of interventions which target healthcare consumers to promote evidence-based prescribing for, and medicines use, by consumers. We sought evi

Acupuncture from the perspective of evidence-based medicine - options of clinical use based on National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines.

BACKGROUND: Acupuncture is one of the oldest therapeutic methods. The traditional view of acupuncture is represented by influencing energy pathways through stimulation of specific points. The original meridian theory, which works with the assumption of normalization of the flowing energy Qi in the organism is, with increasing evidence, supplemented with information about the bio-logical impact of the use of acupuncture from the perspective of Western medicine. Specific stimulation of particular points on the body leads to the activation of hypothalamus and pituitary gland through neurotransmit

ShenNongDiet: a medicine diet recommendation system based on graph-semantic hybrid retrieval and evidence constraint generation.

BACKGROUND: Medicinal diet, a core practice in Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) rooted in the principle of "medicine and food homology", offers potential for chronic disease management and sub-health regulation. However, the broader adoption is constrained by fragmented knowledge, poor personalization, and safety risks arising from improper ingredient combinations or constitution-therapy mismatches. OBJECTIVE: We developed and validated ShenNongDiet, a knowledge graph (KG) and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) system for TCM dietary recommendation that explicitly models constitution suit

Clinical targeted treatment in Sjogren's disease: A systematic literature review for an evidence-based medicine approach.

Sjögren's disease is a systemic autoimmune disease that primarily affects the exocrine glands, causing the main symptoms of xerostomia and xerophthalmia. In about half of the patients, it also causes systemic symptoms, which can potentially involve any organ or system. To date, the management of these patients is particularly complex due to the lack of recognized and approved therapies for the disease, except for medications used as symptomatic treatment for dryness. Due to the limited evidence available, therapeutic decisions in daily practice are frequently based on a combination of expert o

Basilar Artery Thrombectomy Between Evidence-Based Medicine and the Real-World Practice: A Single-Center Experience.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Basilar artery occlusion (BAO) is known for its catastrophic outcomes, whether death or disability, in approximately 70% of patients. Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) has been approved as an intervention in large vessel occlusion of anterior circulation, based on multiple randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and meta-analyses. Even though two RCTs appeared recently, there is still uncertainty about the effect of MT in BAO. Our study aims to report the outcome of MT in BAO and the variables affecting good outcomes and mortality rate. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively col
