A 75-year-old man, known with Morbus Kahler, was referred with a history of uveitis and hypopyon at the left eye. The uveitis did not respond to any steroid treatment. It was complicated with high intraocular pressure. Anterior chamber punction showed atypical cells of epithelial origin. Several weeks prior to this presentation an atypical pterygium of the same eye was biopsied. Histopathologic examination at that time showed mild atypical actinic changes. A 40-year-old man developed obstructive hydrocephalus of uncertain cause followed by bilateral intraocular inflammation, which was initially diagnosed as toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis. When visual acuity in the left eye decreased to no light perception and vision in the right eye was failing, a diagnostic enucleation of the blind left eye was performed. A diagnosis of cryptococcal endophthalmitis was established and the remaining right eye showed improvement after systemic anticryptococcal therapy.

TOPIC: Sympathetic ophthalmia (SO) is a sight-threatening granulomatous panuveitis caused by a sensitizing event. Primary enucleation or primary evisceration, versus primary repair, as a risk management strategy after open-globe injury (OGI) remains controversial.
CLINICAL RELEVANCE: This systematic review was conducted to report the incidence of SO after primary repair compared with that of after primary enucleation or primary evisceration. This enabled the reporting of an estimated number needed to treat.

PURPOSE: The authors aimed to analyze the causes and outcomes of golf-related ocular injuries in this retrospective meta-analysis, literature review, and original case series.
METHODS: Forty-one articles identified by PubMed search resulted in 11 included studies yielding 102 subjects. Included articles described all ocular golf injuries that presented to an institution during a determined period. Eight factors were analyzed: age, sex, location and mechanism of injury, protective eyewear use, resulting open-globe injury, resulting enucleation, and visual acuity changes.

OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the fundus and histopathological changes in the normal miniature pig eye after radial optic neurotomy.
METHODS: Ophthalmoscopic examinations, fundus photography, and fluorescein angiography were performed on 12 eyes that underwent radial optic neurotomy, 5 normal eyes, and 7 eyes that underwent vitrectomy (from 12 pigs in total) preoperatively and 1, 7, 14, 30, and 90 days postoperatively. Aged cotton rats (Sigmodon hispidus) from an established breeding colony displayed signs of spontaneous exophthalmos. Of a total of 118 colony animals that were older than 6 mo of age, 37 (31%) displayed signs of exophthalmos. These rats were clinically healthy and had no other signs of disease. The report aims to present the case of intraocular leiomyoma. We conducted a case study on a patient who presented with an intraocular tumour. After examination, including magnetic resonance, positron emission tomography with computed tomography, B-scan, we performed surgery - enucleation of the eye globe with histological verification of tumour mass. Histological analysis of enucleated eyes proved intraocular leiomyoma. Leiomyoma is a rare intraocular tumour, which is clinically challenging to recognize; therefore, histological confirmation is most often required.

PURPOSE: To report a patient with a tumor-like corneal keloid.
METHODS: Retrospective review of clinical features and histopathologic findings.
RESULTS: A 68-year-old woman with a remote history of an orbital tumor treated with radiation developed a corneal tumor. A biopsy of the tumor showed fibrocellular tissue, and her blind painful eye was enucleated. Pathologic findings in the enucleated eye showed that the corneal mass was consistent with a large keloid.
CONCLUSIONS: A corneal keloid may clinically appear as a large corneal tumor.
