Ameloblastic fibroma (AF) is an extremely rare true mixed benign tumor that can occur in either the mandible or the maxilla, but is most frequently found in the posterior region of the mandible. It usually occurs in the first two decades of life and is associated with tooth enclosure, causing a delay in eruption or altering the dental eruption sequence. AF is diagnosed on routine radiographic evaluation and is clinically and radiographically similar to ameloblastic fibrodontoma and odontoma, which makes an accurate diagnosis mandatory. There is controversy in the literature as to whether treat…

Cemento-ossifying fibromas are slow growing, benign lesions. Recurrence is considered rare. A mandibular periapical radiolucent lesion in a 30-year-old female was diagnosed histologically as a cemento-ossifying fibroma and excised. A recurrence was found 2 years and 6 months postoperatively. CT demonstrated that the recurrent lesion was larger than indicated by conventional radiography.

OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE: The clinical, pathological, and imaging findings in a patient with a chondromyxoid fibroma involving the C2 vertebra are reported. Seven cases that involve the cervical spine have previously been reported in the literature; the posterior vertebral body and posterior elements are the most frequently involved. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of C2 involvement and craniocervical instability.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 20-year-old man presented with intermittent neck pain resulting from a fall 4 years earlier. X-rays and magnetic resonance imaging demonst…

Nuchal fibroma apparently was first described in the second edition of Enzinger's and Weiss's text book in 1988. We have been unable to find any other accounts of this entity. We have reviewed the clinicopathological features of nine nuchal fibromas, eight of which were referred in consultation. Eight patients were men; the ages ranged from 19 to 53 years (median, 43). Patients were first seen with solitary, unencapsulated, subcutaneous swellings in the back of the neck or dorsal region measuring from 2.5 to 8 cm in maximum dimensions (median, 3.5). Macroscopically, lesions were firm, fibrofat…

A case of renal medullary fibroma in a woman is presented. A CT scan, which was performed for examination of cholelithiasis, incidentally revealed a mass in the left renal pelvis, and retrograde pyelography showed a filling defect in the same site. Left nephrectomy was performed. Histological examination revealed a renal medullary fibroma. The diagnostic and therapeutic dilemmas associated with this condition are discussed.

Collagenous fibroma is a rare benign soft-tissue tumor, and involvement of the periocular region is exceptionally uncommon. Metaplastic ossification within this tumor has rarely been reported and may further obscure its clinical and radiologic interpretation. The authors describe the case of a 49-year-old woman with a small, firm periocular mass in the lateral eyebrow region. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a well-circumscribed lesion with low signal intensity, raising concerns for other fibrous or osseous tumors. Histopathologic examination revealed a hypocellular, collagen-rich strom…

Central odontogenic fibroma (COF) is a rare neoplasm, diagnostically challenging and critical to evaluate the lesion's clinical, radiographic and histological studies. Hereby we report a 19-year-old male patient with an initial complaint of pain in the left side of his face which on intraoral clinical examination revealed edentulous 47 region and on radiological investigation presented as well defined radiolucent lesion encircling the impacted 47 with a single speck of radiopacity within the radiolucency following which the lesion was excised along with extraction of impacted tooth and diagnos…

Benign osseous tumors of mesodermal origin that are included within the group of fibro-osseous lesions include cemento-ossifying fibromas (COFs). The fibrocellular component of these diseases originates from the periodontal ligament, which deposits bone and cementum encased in fibrous tissue. It typically appears in the mandible and presents as a solitary, nonaggressive, slowly developing, asymptomatic, expansile lesion, rarely occurring in the maxilla. The only intervention that proved to be successful in producing excellent outcomes and that may be regarded as a final therapeutic option is t…

One of the most frequent conditions found in the oral cavity includes reactive lesions. Peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) is a prevalent condition characterized by an overgrowth, originating from the gingival tissue, periodontal ligament, and periosteum. The condition manifests as a small mucosal nodule and can be difficult to accurately identify since it resembles other lesions. Chronic irritation and trauma are considered to be etiological agents. It is more prevalent in females and typically impacts the anterior region of the maxilla and mandible. The recommended therapy for POF involves s…

BACKGROUND: Granular cell tumors are benign lesions that typically occur in the oral cavity, but can also be found in other sites. However, the characteristics of these tumors are unclear. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the immunohistological characteristics of these tumors of the tongue.
METHODS: Seven patients were treated for granular cell tumors of the tongue at our institution during 2003-2017. Paraffin-embedded specimens were available for all cases; thus, retrospective immunohistochemical analyses were performed.
RESULTS: All cases exhibited cytoplasmic acidophilic granu

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study is to describe a case of a melanotic macule found in conjunction with a giant cell fibroma (GCF). For oral pigmented lesions without an identifiable etiologic factor, critical factors in determining the differential diagnosis are clinical history, symmetry, and uniformity of the lesions. Potential differential diagnosis includes racial pigmentation, endocrine disturbance, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, trauma, hemochromatosis, oral malignant melanoma, or idiopathic etiology and melanotic macules. Melanotic macules are the most common solitary pigmented melanocytic …

A 50-year-old lady presented with a right foot mass and pain for 1year. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a 3.9×3.2×5cm mass on plantar side of the forefoot deep to the major flexor tendons and plantar aponeurosis and inferior to 1st-4th metatarsals. The mass extended dorsally through the intermetatarsal space to the foot dorsum. Ultrasound guided biopsy was performed, which confirmed it was a fibroma. This case was further complicated by pathological fracture of the 3rd metatarsal. It was resected through a dorsal incision and surgical dislocation of the 2nd and 3rd tarsometatarsal joints. Ma…
