This article describes the discovery of a chronic cervical wooden foreign body ventral to the left transverse processes of the cranial cervical spine using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in a dog that presented with chronic neck pain and lameness. The dog did not exhibit dysphagia or chronic draining tracts, the most common signs of the presumed cause, that of a penetrating oropharyngeal foreign body. The foreign body itself was represented on MR images as an oval straight-edged core within an inflammatory tissue reaction. The wood was slightly hyperintense on T2- and isointense on T1-weight

Intramural calcification in intestinal atresia is a rare type of intra-abdominal calcification. The exact etiology of intramural calcification remains obscure. A 1-day-old newborn male baby presented with signs of intestinal obstruction and was diagnosed to have jejunal atresia. The newborn underwent laparotomy with resection of atretic and dilated part of the small bowel. Corneal foreign bodies of varied nature have been reported, however, vegetable foreign bodies in the cornea have seldom been described. A case is reported of a male from the Marshall Islands in the Pacific who retained a number of deep corneal foreign bodies after being struck in the eye by a piece of a coconut shell. The foreign bodies caused considerable inflammation which ceased after they were exposed and removed by means of a centrally based lamellar corneal flap. The patient's eye has remained quiet for 4 months following removal of the foreign bodies.

Migrating foreign bodies in the aerodigestive tract are uncommon but can pose serious complications. We studied four angle-supported anterior chamber lenses whose optics and haptics were made of poly(methyl methacrylate). All four lenses had been removed from human eyes because of bullous keratopathy. Using light and electron microscopy, we compared the cellular reaction on the optics, which had been in the anterior chamber, with that on the haptics, which had been in touch with the iris stroma. A typical foreign body granuloma was seen around the haptics, while the optics were free of foreign body reaction.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to perform a histological comparative analysis of tibiotalar joint samples taken from areas of osteolysis adjacent to total ankle arthroplasties vs control synovial specimens to determine the reaction to and presence of polyethylene (PE) particles.
METHODS: A total of 57 pathology samples were identified in the osteolysis group, while 11 were identified in the control group. For each sample, hematoxylin and eosin, Oil Red O (ORO), and macrophage marker CD163-stained slides were created. Polarized light and ORO stain were used to identify PE particles.
