Incidence of galactorrhea in ovulatory and anovulatory females.

The incidence of galactorrhea in 480 ovulatory females was compared to that in 383 anovulatory females. One percent of the ovulatory and 3.2% of the anovulatory patients had bilateral galactorrhea. The probability (P) of these two groups being from the same population was less than 0.02.

Ranitidine-induced galactorrhea in a postmenopausal female.

We report a case of drug-induced hyperprolactinemia in a 46 year postmenopausal female presenting as galactorrhea and painful breast engorgement as result of ranitidine exposure. The occurrence of galactorrhea as an adverse effect of ranitidine therapy is scarcely reported in literature and to the best of our knowledge this is first such reported case.

Bucillamine-induced gigantomastia with galactorrhea and hyperprolactinaemia.

Gigantomastia is characterised by excessive breast growth and can occur as a rare, drug-induced adverse event. D-penicillamine is the most frequent cause of drug-induced gigantomastia. Only one case of gigantomastia due to bucillamine, an analogue of D-penicillamine, has been reported so far. We herein report a case of bucillamine-induced gigantomastia presenting with acute enlargement of the bilateral breasts and accessory breast tissue in the axillae 7 months after the start of bucillamine therapy. Awareness about this rare adverse event is important since bucillamine is still widely used in

A case with euprolactinemic galactorrhea induced by escitalopram.

Endocrine and reproductive side effects of serotonergic antidepressants are uncommon and galactorrhea is only rarely mentioned among SSRI-related side effects. Perhaps through suppression of dopamine neurotransmission releasing prolactin from tonic inhibitor control of dopamine, serotonin-enhancing antidepressants may result in a rise in prolactin levels. However, we here describe a case of euprolactinemic galactorrhea induced by the SSRI escitalopram and discuss potential mechanisms of action.

Galactorrhea in a 14-year-old girl.

The authors report a 14-year-old girl who had galactorrhea with regular menstruation. Furthermore, this galactorrhea case was associated with hyperprolactinemia and prolactinoma. The patient tolerated and responded well to therapy with bromocriptine. The serum prolactin levels decreased from 103.27 ng/mL to 24.25 ng/mL after 8 weeks of treatment and 12.48 ng/mL after 6 months of treatment. No pituitary tumor was demonstrated after 12 months of therapy and the galactorrhea had not recurred 1 year after ending the bromocriptine treatment.

Risk factors for secondary amenorrhea and galactorrhea.

OBJECTIVE: Analyses were undertaken to identify factors that may predispose women to secondary amenorrhea or galactorrhea, frequent sources of abnormal reproductive function. METHODS: Data were gathered from interviews with 252 women with secondary amenorrhea or galactorrhea from four clinical centers, along with neighborhood controls matched to each case. Univariate comparisons were made for clinical and demographic factors of the study subjects. RESULTS: Patients with amenorrhea and normal prolactin (PRL) levels and their matched controls tended to be younger than those with amenorrhea and…
