BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a benign vascular tumor that can be treated by cautery (chemical or thermal), laser, excision, curettage, sclerotherapy, and cryotherapy. Topical timolol is emerging as a non-invasive modality for the treatment of PGs.
METHODS: We recruited a series of 10 patients with PG, who received treatment with 0.5% timolol maleate ophthalmic solution applied 4 times a day, 2 drops per dose. No other medication, topical or systemic, was given. Pulse rate, blood pressure, and blood glucose were monitored at baseline and weekly thereafter for the duration of treatmen

The term pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a misnomer. The histopathologic appearance is fairly characteristic, the lesion being in fact a lobular capillary hemangioma. The recognition of PG as a clinically polypoid or exophytic, circumscribed lesion is of importance to both the clinician and the pathologist, as this feature distinguishes PG from most malignant vascular tumors. Although PG may be multiple, especially on the skin, and necrosis is not uncommon, invasion of adjacent structures is not seen. Diagnostic pitfalls occur histologically when the characteristic lobular configuration of PG is no

Pyogenic granuloma is one of the diseases sometimes seen in otorhinolaryngology clinics. The clinical features of this disease are understood to be that the lesion is located in the oral cavity in the majority of cases that its causative agent is usually discovered and that it most likely grows as a malignant tumor. However, the entity of pathological diagnosis has not been established. Thirty-one cases of oral pyogenic granuloma, including 16 males and 15 females, are reported in this paper. The granuloma was located most frequently at the tongue, followed, in order, by the gingiva, buccal mu

Primary amyloidosis of the conjunctiva and eyelid is a rare and often misdiagnosed condition. It is characterized by the deposition of insoluble amyloid fibrils, which are misfolded proteins, in the body. Amyloidosis can be systemic or localized with different types of amyloid fibril proteins identified using mass spectrometry. Ocular involvement in amyloidosis can lead to corneal dystrophies, glaucoma, vitreous opacities, and other symptoms. Diagnosis involves clinical examination and histopathological assessment. Treatment options depend on the extent of involvement and may include surgical

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Rhinosporidiosis is a chronic infectious disease caused by an infection with the sporulating bacterium rhinosporidium seeberi. It mostly affects the nose and nasopharynx mucous membranes, but it can also affect the conjunctiva uncommonly. Ocular rhinosporidiosis is most commonly shown as a polypoid tumor in the palpebral conjunctiva. It affects people of all ages and genders. This case is important because there are few case reports in the world, and it is the second case to be reported from Ethiopia.

An 81-year-old woman presented with a 2-month history of a painless nodule on the left foot that bled easily after minor trauma. She had no medical history and did not report any preexisting lesion. Physical examination revealed a 2 cm × 3 cm, exophytic and reddish-colored nodule, with an ulcerated and soft surface (Figure 1). There were no other skin lesions or abnormal physical findings. The diagnosis of a pyogenic granuloma (PG) was suggested. A biopsy specimen was obtained from the center of the lesion and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Histopathologic examination revealed a marked pr

Pyogenic granuloma is a benign vascular proliferation of the skin and mucous membranes, whose pathogenesis is not fully understood. Despite its benign nature, it can have a significant negative impact on patients' quality of life, and therefore appropriate therapy is needed. Over the years, a lot of therapeutic modalities have been used in order to successfully treat this condition. This paper is an updated systematic overview of all the reported successful treatments described in the literature and was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews. Articles derived from

IMPORTANCE: Pyogenic granulomas, acquired vascular lesions, form on the ocular or palpebral surface related to inflammation from chalazia, trauma, or surgery. They can be unsightly, spontaneously bleed, and cause irritation to patients.
OBSERVATIONS: A case series is presented of 4 consecutive children with acquired ocular surface pyogenic granulomas treated at Boston Children's Hospital from 2014 to 2016 with only topical timolol, 0.5%, twice daily for a minimum of 21 days. In all cases, complete resolution occurred within the treatment period with no recurrence for at least 3 months. There
